I like the 'reverse' framing, plywood on the interior: backer for hanging stuff, even plane across the whole wall, and NO insulation cavity facing inward until it's covered in drywall, which you could now skip, even if only for now.....

Looks great.

The horizontal framing will also make it easier to install the metal panels on the outside .

Thanks guys. Sphelps, eventually it gets a 2x4 lay in ceiling with white vinyl covered gypsum tiles...and lay in high bay lights at about 16'. JB it will get 3" vinyl faced metal building insulation when we skin it, The OSB and plywood shear walls are flush with the inside face of framing, so drywall will be no problem down the road. I do need to pre-wire those bays however.

Any reason for the acoustical ceiling grid over just hanging the bottom of the trusses ?

Thanks Bear

Sphelps I like the fact that I can pull the tiles and run wires or whatever later in the 'attic" space

B.A. Barn-Ma-Hall* more like it

To bring this back to 'toon remodeling, I didn't want you to miss out on current out-of-the box pontoon resto-mod'ing theory

At 25ft, I'm sure you'd still have plenty of room to build something similar (better, even) w/ access to all those cool part's donors sitting around.

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

This weekend I took a break from the barn / house and headed to the lake. I spent most of yesterday not doing anything enjoying the 50 degree weather at the lake. Today I met some friends at the Tulsa boat show and look at what is new.....toured a 1.5 million dollar "boat"...very nice lol! I noticed that a lot of the things I have talked about in this thread the manufactures have started producing. Seems like everyone now has a glass "fence".....more sleek looking pontoon.....I'm wondering if they have been reading my thread, lol! Bennington even has a "wood grain" look, which I had been toying with the idea of doing. On the way home I saw this on the turnpike.....

It started me thinking about something I pondered a while back. What if I could build a "cabin" that could be changed out from the pontoon to a trailer. Sort of like a modular living unit.....camper one day, house boat the next. One of my friends has been after me to help him build a simple camper trailer....so this might be a good hybrid project! I still have a looonnnggg way to go on the house / barn, but maybe that is the first project in the new barn!

Still working on fixing things and working towards "normal", lol. But here are a few sort of pontoon related photos

This is why you don't "out run a tornado".......they dug this up out of my creek a few weeks ago.

Scored this lift from a friend, can't wait to get it cleaned up and floating in my dock!

And my dad gave me this. He picked it up in the early 80's at Glen L when we were on vactation.....very cool!

I've heard that a lot around here about boats, lol!

Pic 2 . How does that work ?
Its very simple, the horizontal channels adjust to the width of the dock and attach to brackets mounted on the dock (the brackets are laying on the front of the trailer) The tubes have holes in the back of them, and hoses attached to the front. The hoses attach to a couple of valves and a blower motor. To lower it you open the dump valve, it lets the air out and floods the tubes. Just close it and turn on the blower and the tubes fill up with air and raise your boat out of the water. This is an old one, but still works fine. My buddy spent 7500 on his new one.

More than likely....I want a crackerbox, but right now I have enough projects. Speaking of I need to go sand some joint compound!

Here's a couple pics of the barn. I have been waiting about 2 months for the guys to skin it.....I have seen syrup move faster, but the price is right!

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

I thought about it Zool, but budget got real tight so its going to be a r-panel screw down. Shouldn't be a big issue with a 4 and 12 pitch....I would have loved the standing seam, but it is a barn....or I keep telling myself that every time I right a check lol! I still have to tie in the lean too on the back and frame one new bay, but that should go pretty quick. Hopefully I can get these guys to finish the back wall this week so I can do that next weekend. This weekend I am back to the bathroom, I have been waterproofing the shower, should get that done today....next stop is the tile!

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

Yea, I hear ya, I just use the thin 5v crimp, similar to the r-panel...it holds up fine, they get crazy with the prices on some of that roofing....for just a barn.

Shower is coming good, hows that underlayment work out?, I was looking at some at HD a while back, saw it installed during an inspection I was doing...looked impressive....was also pricey to do large areas.
