Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

The Schluter system is great, I say system, because they have every thing you could ever need for waterproofing and decoupling membranes. It all works together, no cobbling products from two different manufacturers together. I did get a sweet deal on everything, they like to butter up architects, lol! I have used their products on a lot of project. As long as the workmanship is up to par, I have never had any problems. They have some really good instiallation videos. I have been make some as I have been going, but haven't edited them in a while.....need to get to that!

Will the shower get a mortar bed ? I'm getting ready to lay the rubber pan down on my sil's and daughters shower stall . My nephew who is actually a plumber said I should slope the floor with a mud bed before I lay the rubber . Then install the final mud bed .
Barn and new bath are looking great !

I LOVE schluter products, they've got an unbelievable selection of transition strips too. We used schluter extensively in Las Vegas, both residential & commercial.

Shower's looking GREAT. I'm intrigued by the long rectangular floor drain. Looking forward to seeing the tile selection & installation.

PM your way SP

Yes and no. The pan is actually pre sloped, made of high density polystyrene and has the waterproofing felt built in. In my case the pan was a little short, so I added a mud bed in the back of the shower to extend it....which I will waterproof with the same materials I used on the walls. The idea is that the waterproof membrane is directly under the tile, not at the bottom like the system you are describing. I have done both, this one is just a lot easier to me. Google their videos, they are pretty good at explaining how the system goes in. Its is pricey, but the finished product is really nice. Your nephew is right, slope it to the drain....those pvc liners are a pain in the you know what..... they always make the wall bulge out, especially at the corners. You can off set that if you fur out the wall studs above the liner....but that whole mud pan thing is a lot of work to get right.

The rectangular drain is one of their newer products, I think its called "line" if I remember correctly. They also have a premade niche that I will be using. I spec their transitions and trims all the time JB, great products!

Yep 3 and 4 layers of the rubber will make an awfully ugly transition from wall to floor . Depending on the wall layout we almost always try and fur them out . If ya have wood studs you can also notch the bottoms of the studs a little to give the liner some room .
We got to get these projects finished ! There's fish that are begging to be caught , filleted , and consumed ya know ! :D

One of these days I will get back to the boats! I made it one step closer tonight and got the tile down in the bathroom floor.

Here is Saturday's update....I spent a good part of the day setting the shower tile while my helper did prep work in the hallway and guest bath.

Miss Morgan seems comfy.....tucked her in last night before the T-storms.

The pontoon is still outside but will be moving in soon....I just wanted to make sure Miss Morgan didn't have to deal with any hail! We get those large chunks of flying ice around here every so often.

The linear drain really looks great w/ the 2X2 tiles. Nice work. The accent rectangle is a great addition too.

um that is my part to skin, I have been waiting for my.....how should I say it.....really slow skinning crew to get out of the way. I'm guessing my helper and I will have that knocked out in a couple of weekends. It ads about 1600 sf to the barn long term storage.

The hanger 57 looks like your ready to go into business..
I think we will be back in business soon.....I may have a surprise for you guys!

Thanks I think it turned out well other than the small sliver of tile next to the drain.....I am still pissed at myself about that, but its either that or tear the whole thing out! I think I will just be mad at myself for a few days lol! Its funny how much time a small detail like the rectangle adds to the project, I swear that doubled the time it took me to set the floor.
