Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

Happy B-Day and have a great New Year

And a SMOKIN HOT NEW YEAR!!!

Thanks GT, thanks Decker! Hope you guys have a great year too! A lot of you seem interested in the cardboard mock-ups, I could put together a "mockups with cardboard 101" video if there is interest. Let me know.....I've been working on the console, covering the compound curves has been really tedious so far.

Man, ya make a guy stay inside & not work on his boat & he gets cranky!

Awfully early in the new year for this kind of hostility WOG.. But nice 1st cannon shot over the bow! Once sunk, we've got no leverage.....Maybe shanghai her, fill her w/ cheap gas & bad plugs, and send photos of her limping away from the no wake zone at idle..... Plus one or 2 of her bow/transom peeking out from under a tarp in a dark, dusty & dirty old barn..:D

Arch,
In light of your dock height limitations, is a lifting upper deck platform a possibility? A modern take on the 'pop-up' crank mechanism of a camping trailer? 'Folding' from mid-post and up. Except for the lack of any kind of overhead cover at the helm or elsewhere, I really like the looks of it topless in your last rendering. Good looking. I definitely put my vote on the new bow contour too. The helm 'pod' is coming together great & looks good as well. Working in full size mockups is a real bonus.

How are you planning on swinging the lounge chairs on & off the deck, & lock them down while under way (swung out while underway?).

Do pontoons have any required height or structured rail requirements along the edges/sides that don't have full, backed seating? I'm guessing you won't need rail around the bow seating area.

Well its the new year, & the wife is out w/ her mom, so Time to Grind! Have a good new year!

The cost for cardboard is not bad at all considering the piece of mind in the mockup. I'm sure many would love to see you make a vid myself included. Happy B-day and Happy New Year!

Hey Arch, you mentioned a grill in this redesign, i have seen a couple of different types.Other than just sticking regular grill, i have seen one that is pedestal mount and you can get brackets to mount a camp grill to the railing.
I know you have a while before that part, just saw it and thought i would mention it before i fogot.

Ok here are a couple of shots of the helm console and the lounger. I still have a lot of work to do, but at least I feel like I'm starting to get somewhere.

Out of the box thinking.........

Are you going to design a "docking station" so Miss Morgan can be firmly hooked along side or at the stern?

Since your lounger's are out further you might also consider angling the side panels out for a bigger appearance similar to the slashes on a keyboard \_________/

just a thought for your consideration, i saw a lounger that folded out into a twin bed. You camp on the boat , or they could double as sun beds

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

Thanks for stopping by Bob...on docking the loungers will slide back in for that. On the side panels....I think you are talking about the fixed panels? I can't slope them out anymore without being to wide to legally trailer the boat. Let me know if I am misunderstanding your suggestion.

GT thanks for the suggestion, that might be a good option....I like the sort of "floating look" of that. I need to get the higher section of the deck mocked up, my intent was that the sides of the console would die into it at the bottom....but that might work better.

Thanks BigLee, I haven't seen any quite like that. I was thinking about having some cushions that would fill in between the seats up front to create a bed......I have toyed with the idea of taking her on a cruise of the Arkansas River for a week or so. Now I just need a roof an bug netting, :D.

I have some video put together, I'll try to get it posted in a day or so......editing it may take a while. Hope everyone's New Year is off to a great start!

Our 30' Tracker Party Hut had seats like the one's BigLee posted. Knowing that might help you track down a source for them. At the very least you know what boat to look for so you can see at them in person and understand how they operate. Is there a Bass Pro in OKC?

We have on Matt, but I don't think they had the party hut last time I was there. I was just thinking about having a pad that was shaped like the middle of the U shaped seat. But this is worth looking into.

Here is my video on building cardboard mockups 101.....this is more on the tools I used and some fundamentals that I think are important. I'm editing the other one, its on the techniques I used on the console.

Forgot about width restrictions:facepalm:

Possible design of outrigger or arms that could cantilever out from may under the deck level to hold the Miss Morgan.

I was considering a possible dock for the days you have the "fleet" out in the water at the same time.

Good video ;)

Thanks for the vid, arch... You made some good points on what tools and techniques to use...like you said, sometimes we take for granted the stuff we use and assume that everyone else is doing it the same...

Looking forward to part two...

I like Bob_VT's idea of a dock for Miss Morgan...for when the Fleet's out...LOL, 3 Thumbs up!
