I recently bought a 1990 Monterey 19footer. And its been hard finding info on this boat. Im new at boating. So my boat comes with the 4.3 L Chevy V6 motor and a 260 mercruiser sterndrive. I recently changed the motor oil and someone recomended me to use 20W 50. So i did. But i wanna make sure thAtll be fine before i take the boat out for the first time. I dont want to use the wrong oil and burn the motor.and so i also changed the oil for the sterndrive 260 mercruiser. I went to west marine and they recommend me to use a high viscosity oil so i got 80w 90 for it. Please help me. And tell me if im ok to go . I dont mind changing it again if im using the wrong oil. Thank you very much in advance for all your help. I appreciate it. Im a rookie at this.
anyways i found a store like 15 miles from my house not bad.!! And second: so i took the upper unit off as well and you guys should see how filthy that was i even found some metal parts in there. Anyways im going to clean that amd add new grease. Hopefully im able to put it back together because it looks quite complicated do you have instructions on how to put it back???? There are some loose parts that i think are the shifting gears or something , anyways plz send me the instructions if you have any..! other wise ill have too you tube it . Thank you.
