Re: Please help me. Need some advice.

So i finally took my boat out last sunday and everything went find. Till i notice the temperature going up. So it would go up to 240. When idle. But would go back to normal when going fast. Fast (28 to 30 miles per hour, i dont know how fast that is in knots, i dont u derstAnd that :( ....so when going fast it would almost instantly go back to normal temps. (160 to 180) i was told to change the water pump so thats gonna be my second project right now. What do you think? Should i replace the water pump, (impeller) first. May be that would solve the overheating problem.???? And so you said my boat had a MC-1 right? So when buying the parts i can buy the right parts. Thanks a lot again hope you cAn help me. Yet again .

Any time you have any sort of overheat on a stern drive engine, change the water pump impeller and have a close look at all the associated components while you're in there. That's ALWAYS #1 suggestion, and with good reason.

Re: Please help me. Need some advice.

Hey, achris thanks for all your help, its been of great help to a newbie like me . So i found out that they swapped the sterndrive on my boat and thats why the ratio is wrong. So my sterndrive is an R-MR ALPHA ONE (GEN 1 ) atleast thats what comes out when i type in the serial number. And i found out i have a 4.3 l v6 175 HP motor. So i am about to change the water pump due to overheating like i told you in my previous post.! But now im having another problem.: :(. When my prop turns it makes this horible grinding noise.. Which i dont think its normal. Or is it???

'Horrible grinding' is never normal. You're going to have to be more specific. Is the drive still on the boat or off? Which direction are you turning the prop? And is it in gear or neutral? If it's in gear, which one, forward or reverse?

And any more information you can give (like define 'horrible grinding')...

Ok, the drive still in my boat, it makes the noise right when i start pushing the gear forward..! In neutral it doesnt make any noise because the prop is still or it only does it when i push forward. Its like a grinding metal loud... Noise....! Amd it starts right when the prop starts turning.! So i took the prop off and im abot to try it with out and see if the noise still exist. Ill let you know.
Thanks achris .

Re: Please help me. Need some advice.

Does it only make the sound as you go into forward or the whole time you are in forward? If it is just as it is shifting you need to shift with a more firm motion. The clutch dogs need to engage and if you don't do it quick it will make a ticking/grinding noise. If it does it the whole time it is in gear them something is wrong.

Ok so i took the prop off and started it wothout it thinking it was the prop.., but no the noise still there. And yes it does it all the time when its in forward .. And what i notice is that is not the lower unit where the prop goes that makes the sound..!!! Its in the upper unit. Where the sound comes from inside. And it sounds like something its hitting. Inside. All the time. Exect when in neutral.!!! What can that be. Indont think thats normal.

Re: Please help me. Need some advice.

It is not normal. You could take the top cap of the drive off and have a look at the gears. All the shifting is done in the lower unit so it weird that it is coming from the upper. I don't thing there is enough load difference out of the water to make neutral different from in gear. Does it do it in both forward and reverse?

Re: Please help me. Need some advice.

Yes but i think its louder when in forward.! So i toon the lower unit off and i think the overheating is gonna be to not enough water flow and im gonna have to chamge the water pump. But somethink that concerns me is well first the water pump hose was clogged with rubber pieces. The part that concerns me is i found quite a few metal particles too 2 pretty big look at the picture.!! And second i have a question so there is this little tube loose ..! Ill post the picture. Is that one suppose to be loose or tight? Because when i move it with my hand it makes a noise almost as same as the one when in forward of course not as loud..! Can that be where the noise come from???!

Re: Please help me. Need some advice.

If it is only doing it in forward than it sounds like you may just need to adjust your shift cable (if you're lucky) as it's not quite engaging 100% so what you are hearing is the gears skipping over each other rather than locking in place. See below for directions to properly adjust cable.

in the top row of the dialog window that shows: the yellow smily face go 4 icons to the right. Click on it and hit the basic uploader in the bottom right of the box, then hit choose file, then click on what you want to upload, click on choose, then click on upload image whichich is just below select image and you are done. You have to repeat this for each image but you can put 5 images per dialogue box

Some people have been complaining about uploading from a cell. I know the powers that be are working on it but if you wait until you get to a computer it is pretty easy to do.
