That 'red glue' is part of the gasket, it's a silicone bead around the outside. The big black rubber ring, that goes inside the bell-housing, should be glued in with bellows adhesive. And I use a bit of grease to hold the water passage 'O' ring in place while the drive is slid on...

As long as the big rubber ring isn't distorted you should be ok...

Not reading the manual? It's quite clear (and in bold type, under the heading 'IMPORTANT') to glue the big rubber ring in place.... Just saying ;)

With the Alpha I was kind of winging it before I found a manual. With the Bravo you better believe I am doing it by the book.

I wouldn't stress about it... in order for water to get in the boat both that ring AND the outer gasket need to leak....

Manny what were the metal pieces you found in the upper? Any metal is not good and requires more then just an oil change and cleaning! You need to investigate that further!

! And when your starting your boat on the trailer do you have any water hooked up to the leg(Drive)? If not youll destroy that new impeller in seconds!!

Manny,

we are all concerned about you finding metal debris in your drive. post pictures.

as flipbro stated, you can not simply change oil and call it good. you have either gears or bearings that are going.

make sure you have seatow or tow boat us towing insurance.

I couldnt see any damage in any parts i have no i dea where those were from. Looked like pieces from the upper housing. Gess the shaft was hitting it.!! And i know why now... I would turn my boat on with the leg all the way up :/ . I know i was a newbie i didnt even know what i was doing :/ so now i know ur not suppose to turn it on like that.! Gotta bring it down. And yes i do have the hose with the earmuffs on . :) thank you. So i just finished everything today. Turn it on and it works beautiful. No overheating no weird noises etc. Smooth :)

Hey buddy.! So i am done.!!! Put the drive back together. And finally turned it on , and it works nice and smooth.! Thank you very much... If it wasnt for you...! and a few other guys. I wouldve never been able to do something like this myself.!!! I found out what the "terrible" noise was lol... I didnt know ur not suppose to turn on the motor with the outdrive all the way up😬😬 so today when i turned it on, it was all the way down and guess what..? No terrible noise when in gear :) a rookie mistake . Theres only 2 things that i dont feel pleased about.! The big O ring that i was supposed to put adhesive to glue it in place, and the gasket that goes in between the gimbal and the upper unit rip a litte bit 😬 hope i dont get any problems from that.! But other than that.!!! Thank you.... Very much..!!!!!! Ill let you know how everything works out next time im in the water .! I also replace my fuel sending unit that wasnt working so now i know if im running outta gas lol... Thanks again. Till next time.! ✌️ Manny.!

I assume you mean between the bell-housing and the drive... Just how much ripped is 'a little bit'? and where was this rip? If it's in a critical area, you WILL get a water leak into the bellows, or the shift cable cavity... and that's not a good thing.

Right on top. Where the gasket is very thin, and left upper bolt.! What do you think achris.!? Should i just play it safe and replace it ? And ad the adhesive as well???

Ayuh,.... The glue on the big o-ring is just to hold it in-place, til ya slide the drive on,...
I just use a wad of grease for that,....

If the gasket was ripped, I'd spend the $6.00 for a new 1, 'n Replace it,....

Me too,,, I never glued it in place, didn't even know it should be glued?,,, I never had a problem with one not being glued. True if it's ripped, I'd replace it though.

+1^^^ For the cheap money just replace the gasket and don't worry about it. As Bondo recommends just use a little grease to hold the o-ring in place. If you use glue it will just make it harder to completely remove it when you have to replace it next.
