I am new to the forum, and no doubt, the questions i pose have been covered many times before. However, in hopes that i could receive help from the board on my problem, i forged ahead. I started my attempt at water pump impeller replacement on my 84+ 30 hp Johnson outboard. No luck removing "gear case". After reviewing tech on this site i determined the problem was hidden beneath the pick up area on the gear case.

Thanks guys!
On to the actual removal and inspection of the internals. The condition of the impeller itself left something to be desired.

The impeller housing was somewhat lacking as well...

My question, if you will allow me, is in two parts:
a) Advice on removal of the shift linkage that extends down from the motor itself to the point at which it terminates into the connection at the gear case.
b) Help in identifying the "bushing" which supports the drive shaft just above the point where it enters the gear case.

Any additional advice is welcomed, and much appreciated.
