I good portion of posters here were caught by surprise that their floating, solid looking hull is trashed. Inexperienced small boat buyers look at a boat and think "its just fiberglass and it doesnt have any holes in it". Then they notice the deck is a little spongy by the seat, they usually come and ask the best way to lay a deck over the original, because it only needs to last a little while. Then someone here kicks them in the nuts with the underlying truth, some run away, and some become our next beautiful restore.

Most runabout buyers forgo a survey, which for around $800.00 or so, they would have saved 5 grand, not wanting a project boat. I suspect the recent covid boat rush had produced a bunch more of them, they just dont know it yet ;)
Yup. "Lets look at this soft spot".... LOL
Turns into; "lets tear up the deck and replae all the stringers"...

Respirator? What's a respirator? Just kidding. I gotta confess though that in my younger days when I was doing most of my glass work, snowmobiles mainly, I never even wore a dust mask. Generally I wasn't doing a tremendous amount of grinding though. I do wear a proper respirator when doing paint work, but sometimes I'll skip if if doing rattle can work in a well ventilated area.

Some of the pics you guys post must give noobs nightmares. Sure glad I seen these before I was posting similar ones of my own! The comment about the hull looking good so how bad could it be is dead on. I was thinking the same thing, fiberglass doesn't rot or go bad, right? So why would people offer up running boats with a nice trailer for less than the cost of a decent outboard motor? Guess could always keep the trailer and bury the boat in the yard to make a koi pond or a swimming pool.....LOL
