Re: NHL Playoff Hockey Anyone?

angus would have won the bet ... from what I heard, the Pens went back to playing uninspired hockey and the Rangers were fighting for their lives. Rangers totally outplayed the Pens. That gives them hope and a chance, Pens better put them away Sunday night in New York, or it could be ugly. 16 times the Rangers have been down in a series 3-1 and 16 times they have lost the series. Let's hope this is #17 ....

Art, may the best team win. The Pens best game will beat the Rangers best game, so here's to hoping for a mediocre Pen team tonight!! : )

Golf is 15 minutes away. Goal tending has made the difference so far tonight. Pens have been attacking, but are not there for the rebounds, or are whiffing at the bouncing puck. I am very worried at this point!

Chicago-Minnesota was a great series. The Wild play a good game with a lot of heart. They might not have won, but they showed up and played! My 'Hawks get a bit of rest now while we wait to see who wins Anaheim-LA.

In the meantime, I'm going to be rooting on the Habs tonight. I'd love to see them take out Boston.

Re: NHL Playoff Hockey Anyone?

And Bylsma is fired ... He had the talent to go a lot farther, but for some reason could not get them playing together after the Olympic break. Injuries hurt, but then the last couple years he kept bringing people in down the stretch and they just didn't mesh. I think goaltending will be the first area to be addressed by the new coach ... Fleury is good, but he needs to be settled down and kept in position. He has a hard time covering the puck also, which leads to a lot of second and third shots, and goals from them. His reflexes are good, but his decision making needs help.

I like Bylsma because he lets the players play and have fun, but the flip side of that is he does that too much. There doesn't seem to be enough coaching from the bench. The question is, who will be the next Pens coach?

Looks like GM Shero is gone also ... the press release:

Ray Shero has been relieved of his duties as general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins, it was announced today by co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle. The search for a new general manager is already underway.

“Ray is a good person who made a positive impact on the Penguins and the Pittsburgh community,” Lemieux and Burkle said in a joint statement. “We thank him for his contributions to our organization, and especially for his key role with our 2009 Stanley Cup championship team. We wish all the best for him and his family.”

The Penguins have advanced past the second round of the playoffs only once since 2009 and earlier this week were ousted in the second round by the New York Rangers. “We feel it is time to move our franchise in a new direction,” Lemieux and Burkle said. “We share the disappointment of our fans that we have not had success in the playoffs over the past five seasons. We believe that new leadership in the general manager’s office will bring a new approach and new energy, and help us return to championship form.”

Lemieux and Burkle said that one of the first duties of the new general manager will be to evaluate the entire hockey operations department, including the coaching staff. Assistant general manager Jason Botterill will take over as interim general manager until a new GM is hired. Botterill, who will be a candidate for the GM position, will oversee the Penguins’ scouting staff as it prepares for the NHL draft.

Shero was hired by the Penguins in May, 2006

I suspect he won't have much trouble finding another head coach position...

Now it is unsure if Bylsma has been fired or not ... Hmmm ... Are they holding him to keep him away from the competition? Crosby and Malkin have lost respect for him. Interesting developments in the Penquins camp ...
