To reduce materials you have to buy, just make some peanut butter (poly resin mixed with cabosil to thicken it) to fill voids with. I also used it to glue the floor to the stringers. Go buy some icing bags from the baking section at Walmart. Mix up a batch of PB, dump into an icing bag, then pipe it out where it needs to go.

Got the transom fiberglass off today. Some rot as seen in the pics mostly at the bottom, might be some rot higher on the starboard side. Any ideas about staggering partial replacement wood pieces assuming there is good wood to work with, or just replace it all. Looks like wood 1/3 to 1/2 way up is still good. I plan on glass and mat between each layer and two layers on inside and 3 layers mat each corner 2” 4” 6 “ overlap. I’m also looking at the old engine supports which at present help to support the floor. Was thinking of removing it, but I am putting a joist in the center of old engine pit to support the floor as there will be a plywood floor joint so have to have the center joint supported.

Got the pod off today working outside. Took some serious pounding to remove it. But now boat will fit in my garage to redo the transom and floor and then put it back together. Sick truck in the garage I got to get going so I can move the boat in there and have some heat.. 7.3 Diesels "argh". We leave on a trip New Years Eve for three weeks, would like truck fixed and at least boat floor and transom done before..

Got my four main deck sheets bottom side fiberglassed today with unwaxed resin and a sheet of 1708. They will go two on each side 16’ long. connecting in the center on top of the main stringer the length of the boat. Tomorrow I’d like to do two layers of 1708 on the topside of the four sheets, assuming that’s ok. Questions I have are if I did the two layers and in a week or so install my deck can I just run peanut butter down the joint over the center stringer to seal any gap between sheets of plywood on each side. Or do I need to fiberglass a 4” strip and a 6” strip of cloth overlapping the joint? Probably installing rubber backed carpet if it makes any difference ?

I didn't use cake piping stuff. I used cheapo gallon zip lock baggies. Filled with pb, twist tight and cut a corner with razor. Adjust bead size by corner cut size

You will want to fill the gaps and also glass over that.
Thanks for responding, so fill center gap/joint length of boat with peanut butter, then a 4' strip of cloth the length over top on top of joint and a 8' strip over top of that should do it?.

Add some chopped glass to it for strength. Push it in and spread flat and clean. Make sure though prior all edges have been wetted out and dry. You can feather the bumps out afterwards to blend.

My wife used to be a cake decorator and only used the professional tools on finnishing touches, most was piped on with zip lock bags and cut corners !!!

Will do the chopped glass. Wetted and laid on 2 sheets of glass on deck side of my four sheets of plywood, so that’s done . Tomorrow cut off overlaps on the edges and wet the edges out good. Patch a couple of air pockets and good to go. Then in the boat to grind off the 10”s or so on the sides of the boat where I tie the floor into the sides, a little grinding around the transom after I get the wood out and the plan is boat in the garage thursday morning. Planning on glueing 2 of 3/4” and 1 of 1/2” plywood together for the transom and then fiberglass it to the outer skin, and 3 increasing pieces of cloth down each side to tie it in and two sheets of cloth over the inside of the transom. Be glad when that is done.

Once you try the cake bags, you'll never go back to zip locks. You have way more control since there is a much smaller angle at the tip, compared to the 90 degree angle at the corner of a zip lock bag. They're also a more "crinkly" material that doesn't stretch, like zip lock bags.

Got my floor pieces patched over a few air bubbles, didn’t get the edges done but can do them closer to installing the floor. Did get the boat mostly sanded where I will be joining the new floor with the gunnels. So in pretty good shape for tomorrows move inside to my garage. Still need to remove transom wood, clean up the opening for installing the new transom, and tie stringers into the new transom, including carrying on the center stringer to the transom after I remove all the old engine mounts. Clean some old wood deck off the tops of the fiberglass stringers, And a little cleanup along the sides so I get a good floor fit.
Also got a old pump out head hole, in the hull, a sink drain, and I assume a supply hole by the sink, and another side hole by the driver station, not sure what that was for. Head hole I could patch and get rid of it entirely will never use it, I like the sink and might stick a pump on the supply hole for water to clean all those fish I’m going to be catching. And probably seal the hole by the drivers station, again no clue what it might have been for. Any ideas out there of its use?
Thinking in print listing the to do’s. Another day tomorrow.
