Re: New England Get Together

tlynch99,

I have to get a few things straightened out before the weekend, but if my plans all go together, I would be going there Saturday. Probably for the day, leave late morning, spend the day out on the river and then to a mooring in the cove. My dock mate claims he has one there, but said the majority of people simply tie to an empty one and stay for the night. If the owner comes, you move to a different empty one. I guess they have transient moorings, maybe a couple? I have heard rumors to this, and they even mentioned a guy comes out and collects money from you if you stay over night. Not sure how much faith I put into that.

I would have everything I needed for the two days and one night spent on the boat. I'm trying to get people to come with me, as my GF can't make it, and I won't be taking on this type of thing without others on board helping out with the mooring, docking etc...

Time will tell about the trip.

Re: New England Get Together

25th,

That seems about right, I was down on that part of the river the Saturday morning (9AM maybe) of the 4th of july weekend. When we went into the cove to check it out, I would say there are about 30 moorings in there... and it seemed like most of them were filled up with boats. Many were rafted together. I have also heard about someone that comes out and collects $10. I guess some of the moorings are private (if you end up taking someones then you just move) and others are owned by an association or something (Pay the $10).

I hear you about trying to get other people to come, as a boat of your size I would expect you need atleast another set of hands to dock / pickup mooring etc...

As far as the food on your engine i wouldnt bother, i used to drive overnights and it takes way to long for your food to cook.

Re: New England Get Together

tjl,

Getting the boat onto a face dock is a one man job. Set the fenders and lines first and then ease on it. Backing down into a slip with this boat is a 15 man job, lol. Grabbing a mooring with the boat is a minimum two man job. I always like having another set of hands on board. Even if they aren't boaters, you never know when they will come in handy.

Re: New England Get Together

I'm trying to get everything in order so I can head out for the day/weekend. I might end up just trying to make Sunday, as we now have to dog watch for my GFs mother.

I think we did get the windlas working last night, and did some cleaning. :D

Re: New England Get Together

My final headcount is 5. Myself, my wife and daughter, son-in-law and friend Danielle (who is early 40s, attractive, skinny and looking for a new boyfriend). It is about a 2.5 hour drive for me so we plan on leaving no later than 8:00 with the plan to be at the Salmon river launch by 10:30.

How do we plan on identifying each other at the cove?

Re: New England Get Together

I'm doing my best here, and plan to even head out to the boat and get her all ready for the day. I find it weird that my friends who have been waiting years to go on my boat, all seem to ignore me when I invite them...

Re: New England Get Together

Tell me about it, I figure everyone would want to come out and enjoy a day on the boat, especially those who have been mentioning it for years now.

I did however do some dock practicing last night, and feel 99% sure I could back the boat down into her slip alone. I went from never having done it before, and having a few issues, to being confident and even excited. Just by upping the RPMs a bit, and dropping the canvas so I can stand up.

I will update here as to what time I plan to head to the cove on Sunday. I'd like as early a start as possible, but who I bring along will dictate that a bit.

Chanel 8 sounds good to me. I will be monitoring it.

My head count has also dropped from 5 to 4 and potentially 3.

Re: New England Get Together

I just got back from Kmart and picked up a Colman grill, the type you might bring camping. I think it calm waters it would work with my boat. I'll be bringing that, and it it doesn't / work on my boat we can use it on someone who has a larger boat / more space....

I'll be at the Salmon River launch around 9am, monitoring CH 8
