Time to stop screwing around and get my new transom glued up and screwed down. I need to mount a transom board as well and I'm not sure how far out from the center I can mount it and still have the transducers work right. Anyone know for sure ? Picture shows about where I want to put it.

Transducer mount goes on the starboard side and in between the strakes on the bottom, I wouldn't put it on the outside as it will loose contact easier when turning.

Well I guess I can cut the board in half and try to put it in between the gimbal ring and the anode . Starboard is the driver side , Right ? I can't seem to remember the nautical terms any more , gettin old i guess.
What would you think about just using 5200 to glue the board in place without screws ?

The transducer should be at least 8" from the prop blades. Here is where I placed my mount.

You could just use 5200 to attach the mount but if it ever needs removed that could be an issue.

Maybe i'll save the board for another boat and make up a genuine imitation of what you have made for your boat. Problem is , if I want the transducer on the starboard side 8" from the leg then I will need to straddle the anode and it looks like your mount would work just fine for that . Anything wrong with using a couple of pieces of channel and a plate instead of the angle Aluminum ? I don't think that I can make one the way you did and get it to look that clean but I might be able to fake a rectangle plate that does not have the bends on the sides .

I would consider removing that anode all together and cover over with the mount.

Would removing the anode make a difference in the amount of corrosion that would form on the hull ? All in all there was not much corrosion anywhere in the boat and I wonder if the anode made that difference .

I have to say that anode has done nothing for the boat and here's why. The anode is on a painted surface and inside some sort of plastic base or holder. Also it looks to be intact zinc that would be ate up if working by giving itself up to electrolysis. Anodes have to be on the bare AL hull or drive to work.

Here is what a sacrificial anode would look like if it was working.

Well there is no doubt that the anode is in good shape . It is just a bare anode and is bolted to the transom on a bare spot ( no paint ) , no plastic holder or anything like that but it has a gasket underneath between the anode and the aluminum that I thought should not be there and prevents it from good contact against the bare aluminum . I have no way of knowing when the last time it has been replaced though , may not have been on the boat that long but I will remove it anyway, makes things a lot simpler .
I went out and removed the anode , maybe i will mount it on the inside of the transom above the waterline against the bare aluminum at some later time.

On my boats that will only be used in fresh water I take the anodes off and put them in a pile.

Your IO stern drive set up should have plenty of anodes on it, my Mercruiser has 6.

there is one more that i know of , it' on the bottom of the gimbal ring where
the exhaust is. A little ware on it but not bad . I I don't know what kind of water it might be used in after I sell it but the Ocean is only an hour and a half or so from here and there is plenty of Dungeness Crabbing goin on over there so you never know. Don't know why the one would not be good enough either way so screw it .

What a train wreck !! I finished the 1st coat of white paint on the transom with the roll and tip method and you can see every friggin roller and brush mark in the paint as if that was the desired look. Anywhere the brush missed the roller marks show up. Tomorrow I'm going to scratch it up good with some 180 gt. sandpaper and then shoot the next coat on with my litte touch up gun. What a wasted effort. I should have fun trying to sand out all the marks left by the roll and tip method.

I would just use an electric or air sander to break the surface and then repaint with the gun.

I'm not good at painting with a roller or brush either but I can tell tell by the pics that your brush/roller wasn't loaded with enough paint.

I have an orbital sander and a DA sander to use on it so I will have to chase down the Sandpapers for them , got em somewhere around here.
I read on the can that the paint needed to be thin or it would not set up right so was trying to get a thin coat on there so that is why the 1/8 nap roller was not loaded up. Guess that was the wrong thing to do huh. As usual the wind came up too as I began to paint and was gusting to 25 mph which probably made what paint I did have on there dry before flowing.
I gotta think that a sprayed job will be better all the way around but with the conditions it may be difficult , maybe if I shoot it before 10 am the wind will not be as bad .
I'm no pro with a air gun either but I am reasonably sure that it will look better that it does now when I'm done. Would have never tried to roll it on but it was a small job and i thought it would be quicker and less mess to do the ol roll and tip method but I think I will stay with the gun method.

All sanded down now and ready to paint again ! Don't know why I thought that the little bit of sanding I had to do was much of anything. Think I was just a little frustrated with the winds and the bad job i did. Same thing today , wind was down while I sanded but when it was time to paint , here came the wind . Not the first time either , for some reason someone up there likes to test me when i try to paint something. Seems like it happens every time so i guess i should have expected it. Forecast says the winds should die down in a couple of days so i will find other things to do while i wait.

Got the gimble ring painted yesterday after installing the new used trim sender that I bought from my used parts bud , wish he would have had a Teak swim step for me as well but maybe soon. Shot a coat of White on the stern yesterday but got a little sloppy and got a few runs . Today I did a quick wet sand and then put two more coats on after the wash job dried and waited an hour between coats. I want to put one more coat tomorrow and I will call the White half done.
So tomorrow I will have to decide if I am going to paint the Blue half as well. We have another major fire about 30 miles away that has already destroyed more than 6000 homes and killed at least 29 people and the smoke can be a bit overwhelming when the wind blows from the south. I hope for the victims sake that the winds stay down , it was 50 mph winds that made the fire so bad .
Will try to get a few pictures tomorrow, I got lucky today with light winds and I got two coats on without any runs !!

Some people sure make painting look easy don't they?

Good to hear you weren't in the way of the latest firestorm, sucking up the smoke is bad enough, I know how that goes.
