Did you use Marine ply ? I planned on one or two coats of sealer but not the treatment for exterior ply . kinda another reason that i payed up for the marine ply so i didn't' need to do the full treatment for treating plywood . But if you say so i will once again bow to the tin master as you have an uncanny way of being right 99% of the time.

I see your posts, thanks but that 99 may be off a few

Marine ply is expensive because it has 2 sanded A sides and few if any voids with exterior rated lamination making it super to work with and arguably stronger than regular ACX which has one A side, an ugly C side and is exterior rated lamination as well.

Either one will rot sooner if left unsealed as they are both normally the rot resistant Douglas fir. So I choose to seal them up extra well, a guy could just paint or use spar rather than both... or epoxy resin too.

I like the spar idea because i already have some , so i will go with that. I noticed right away that when you pickup a sheet of Marine grade ply it is much heavier than 3/4" exterior must be the glue . That is of course out here in Kalifornia at least. The rest of the world may be getting some better quality wood for a much better price.
Even the Spar is 16 bucks a quart ! I guess in many ways I'm still living in the 80's because i just can't justify the price of goods here in Commifornia.

Ok, all sparred up and waiting to dry . Crawled in the boat and cleaned up the transom skin with a little sand paper and Purple Power mixed with water . When it dried I shot the skin with some corrosion converter for good measure. Don't know if I need to paint over it or just leave in and install the transom. What you guys think??
Tomorrow I hope to get the transom bolted in and then I will need to go and dig up another couple hundred bucks for a trim sender and some paint . I guess I could try to take the sender apart and see if it can be repaired but I'm not counting on it . I want to paint the back of the boat before I mount the outdrive and gimble ring. In fact the outdrive and ring need to be painted before being mounted as well . Just a matter of money and time I guess.
Tomorrow is another day will see what happens.

I have primed with SE and painted my transom inner skin, just as a precaution against future corrosion.

Well I got a little antsy and dropped the transom in before i gave any more thought to painting the skin so guess i will run it like that . Don't know how much more abuse the new trans. will take before i begin to tear it up so i will call er good to go.
looks like i need to use new nuts on this thing , some of the originals were rusted out enough that i won't use them again.
I keep buying more and more nuts bolts and rivets and still can't seem to find the ones i need when i go to get them !:mmph:
if i put up the bolt and screw bin i bought a couple of years ago it might be a little easier to find what i've got but that would be smart so i'll just do it later :indecisiveness:
Headed back out to make sure i've got everything lined up right and stick the gimble in and check it out.

One of our local Tru Value Hardware stores went out of business this last August and I made them an offer on their nut and bolt hardware section and they accepted, so now it is sitting in a storage unit, but I might have to build a new building to put it is, it is amazing how those sections don't look quite as big when they are in the store as they do out of the store!

My wife told that I had finally after 30 years confirmed to her I have a screw loose!

I know what you mean, I have a large drawer in my garage that is full of fasteners
Stainless steel staples, pop rivets, solid rivets, and all sorts of stainless steel nuts and bolts and screws and washers yet I seem to always be buying some more when I go to the big box store.

For 2 days now I have been looking for 3M 5200 and some rustoleum marine paint . I don't like the big cities but sometimes living in podunkville can be more than just a little inconvenient . Even if I order it through a local merchant it will be a week or more before i can get it. Oddly enough , Paint by the same maker is not available Anywhere here or within the surrounding towns either so i will order that as well.
Damn this traffic jamb, how i hate to be late, hurts my motor to go so slow.:flame:

that would make projects more challenging not being able to run for supplies same day. I would have to plan better for sure. I am fortunate enough to even have several marine supply stores near by.... Even the HIGH priced marine chain sells 3M at 5200 at competitive prices.
I do order alot online, and most things come within a day or two.

Rustoleum Professional is the same formulation as their Topside paint.

Well I broke down and ordered what i needed today and i guess it will be here when it gets here. I've got a years worth of yard work and home repair waiting for me as well so i'm sure i will be able to find something to do till the stuff gets here.
Mega millions worth one and a half BILLION DOLLARS and i already bought the winning ticket so i'll have plenty of money for all this stuff soon. Lol . :heh:
Guess i'll look for the Ruso Pro next time , i might be able to find some of that.

I planned out my entire build and ordered all (LOL) of my fasteners from bolt depot.com. Yeah, LOL, I made two orders, but their service and pricing are pretty good.

*Edit, I forgot to comment on the lottery. I got in on a group lottery buy at work the other day, we won $6 out of 90 tickets, maybe we will hit the State lottery tonight, lol.

He He, yep I got the same treatment , no real shock. Looks like my Redneck Retirement Plan let me down again. Lol . I know it's really looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong odds but someone wins it in the end so why not me . Right ?

I sure would like to have the ability to just buy what i need for the work i have to do but I am just not that focused . i still run to the local tool outlet to buy odds and ends bolts ALL the time. You would think that I would have amassed what i needed by now but Oh No , can never find what i need , even if I have it !
Wonder if the fact that all my supplies are in Ten different buckets as well as scattered all over my little shop . My tools also share this same organization plan.;)

I have spent the last few days taking boxes out of my storage shed and it seems like every time I open one up to see what is it in(because I am not smart enough to mark it) I find something that I knew I had, but could not find, so I went and bought another, my wife just shakes her head and looks at me like I am crazy, today she opened a box up and found 4 of the same tool and hollered at me asking me, don't you have 2 of these hanging on the wall in the shop? I just told her to put it back in the box and write "Garage Sale" on it, so we know that everything in that box needs to find a new home next summer!
