Re: My mystery hull project!!! 14" Something??

I want to know about the drain passage from bow to stern. Do I glass the ribs in and then drill the holes and follow up with a coating or two of epoxy and call it good, or what should I do in this case?? I will be running the wiring under the side gunnels so that is not an issue under the floor. I have searched but only found how to do it on boats with deeper ribs/stringers.

Also, what should I use to connect the floor to the stringers? Do I PL them together and put some good weight ontop to anchor it well, or should I do the PL and screw into the top of the stringers and then glass it in? I am still curious as to what is the best way to do this.

Hay john. i would get the drain in before i go to glassing the ribs in , you ribs arent very tall ?? what size tube you going to use ??

On the stringer i used the PL, you dont want to push them in so they touch the floor , you are beding them in the PL, the idea is not to have the wood touch the floor !! it spreads out the forse the stringer puts on the hull !! do you get what i am trying to say ?? lol ok hope this helps John

I do not understand "brain". I did not push the ribs all the way down, I just barely set them in the PL. Do I NEED to put stringers in this boat from bow to stern??? DO I really need them for structure??? I need alot of help at this stage!

sorry john i went and checked my spelling , that was drain ,

yep dont push the ribs all the way down , just set them in !!

on the stringers they were in there werent they ?? i would put them in they help tranfer the stress the motor puts on the transom to the hull , it spread the force out !! john

Re: My mystery hull project!!! 14" Something??

The boat did not have any stringers at all. It had a floor which was set about where my floor will be and it had foam under it. There were two "boxed" seats from port-strbrd. and the PVC looking pieces were drain tubes. I did not see any stringers or ribs. The largest motor that may be set on it will be 10-15hp tiller. I just need the advice as to put stringers in from front to back in this thing before I fillet the ribs in and glass them in. I also need to know how to "anchor" the floor to the ribs properly.

ohh and are you putting the foam back in ?? I think i would , it shouldnt take much !! just to be on the safe side !!

putting the deck down i would use the Pl and a few screws !! you shouldnt really need them but to be safe i would !!

and then glass the deck down , run it up a couple inchs on the sides !! then the carpet or paint and you should be good !! john
