Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Thanks jb, i check a couple times a week for SC's within 4 or 5 hundred miles of Colorado. lost a Starchief at 1500 obo about 120 miles down the road from me 2 weeks ago. Was on Craigs for about 5 days and then the ad was pulled as it sold. I could not get off work to get it. Still hope to land a ss, jupiter, or a starchief. Be headed to az to help the brother out next week may run into something between here and there with some luck.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Well so I thought I would have this trailer primered by Friday, By Friday I wasn't even done sanding, grinding and scraping. So I was up early today and by 2:45 mtn std time, one Vanson trailer was readiy for paint. What a relief. It went pretty good, I rolled the primer on and what I couldn't get i sprayed on. Here are a few pics pics so ya know it happened:D.100_1046.jpg100_1116.jpg100_1122.jpg100_1119.jpg100_1117.jpg Man I am glad this part is done. I need to order a couple keel rollers and when they get here put her back together, flip the boat and start something else. I know something has to be done on the boat but I've been so focused on the trailer I forgot what was next. I know its not done though. haha

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Thanks jb and GA. That is the plan, painting on Mon. and Tue. I was wondering if you guys could tell by these pics if the bunks need to be longer. They were 5' if I moved the brackets forward to the next crossmember they would be about 9'. The way it was setup the front was just setting on the forward keel roller and both the roller and axle were bent. Any thoughts? Thanks and hope you are enjoying Easter.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

If you make them 9' are you sure you can get them to contact the hull along most of the additional 4ft +/-?

It looks pretty flat running forward most of the way along that outer bottom chine, or at the least just over half (16ft boat, 9ft stringer):

So if you think it'd support the hull better, and put less stress on the keel rollers, I don't see any reason not to. If needed you can probably tweak one end or the other up or down to gain contact along it's entire length. Indoor/outdoor carpet from Lowes/HD can be a good substitute for bunk carpet. Seal & prep the bunk wood like you have the rest of the wood on the boat.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

That is looking like a brand new trailer there. You get a good coat of paint and it will really spiff up the whole package. That is really nice.

On the 9' bunks if you add another support, 3 per side, you could put a bend in the board to fit the hull if needed.

That front roller was toast.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Thanks guys. I plan on starting to paint in the morning. 64 I ordered a new roller and a pair of bunk brackets so I will be able to support the longer bunks in three places. Its looks like the parts will be here by the weekend so I hope to have the painting done and ready for reassembly on Sunday. Did some new measurements and it looks like the bunks will be about 8'4" and run pretty flat with maybe turning up a little bit at the front. Finally light at the end of the tunnel on this trailer stuff.

Movin' right along AJ!!! you cleaned-up the trailer that well...can't wait to see what you do with the Boat!!!!!

You're lucky; at least you have rubber on that roller. The PO of my recent SS aquisition neglected to see that he was driving-up onto a roller shaft. Needless to say, I'm probably going to need some welding work to repair my keel.

Ya know you would think a guy would see that when he is retrieving his boat and is backing the trailer into the water, or maybe here it. Ya know like fingernails on the blackboard at school.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

OK quick update here. Trailer is painted or at least most of it. Have to do fenders still and touchup. I was wrestling with painting it white or else gray with red trim like the boat will be, but just had a thoughtnthat I would reverse that idea. So trailer is red and gonna have gray fenders, winch stand and maybe some other gray stripes or something. Gray carpet on the bunks and guideons. Gotta get ready for work. Heres the pics.100_1136.jpg100_1137.jpg100_1138.jpg100_1139.jpg100_1135.jpg

I see a CSI apprentice won't have trouble IDing the perp who painted your trailer, AJ. All my paint cans end looking just like yours. Red & gray should look good when it's all back together.

Great job so far. I've been quiet so far, but do I see an Ohio State Buckeyes theme going on here? Or is that my local biased Ohio opinion reaching out.
