Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Hey Barato, I almost found that out the hard way also. The next holes I did exactly like that and had a wedge shaped piece of scrap to hold the piece from sagging. Great minds thinkin alike uh? i will post a pic when I get home from work tonight or in the morning. Fireguy I actually have been working on it doing the aforementioned holes in the transom. Also got the new transom cut out and laminated yesterday. I was distracted all day Sat. tho I will have to post pics later to explain.

100_1266.jpg This is the patch with the wedge under it, after realizing almost too late on the other side the same size patch had slid down to the bottom of the hull. Part of the learning curve. Hope this might save some other guy a headache.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

To catch up on the weekend I had planned on starting early Sat on the transom. I was looking on CL fri night and made a call on a boat. No answer I leave a message. I have been looking for a 14' for fishing this summer because the Jup won't be ready. I am Lowes Sat. morning and its the seller. 14's been kinda scarce and pricey around here so I want to see this boat as the price was reasonable. Its 50 miles away and I run into traffic delays all the way. So long story short version is, its home. Not a SC but i like these also. Dosn't need much work to start fishing. The transom got built on Sunday, my stainless fasteners arrived on Monday so I got plenty to do this week hope to get the transom and splashwell in by end of the weekend.

Not bad at all, nothing wrong with those tinnies. You'll be on the water in no time.

It's coming along great AJ! Good tips on the JB Weld LL/B2!

That's a cool mini-tinny to hold-you-over until the Jupe is splashed!

That's an extremely nice and deep 14' you got. I like it a lot better than the shallower 14' Alumacraft my dad got. Great find!

now for the critical two Qs: what did you have to give for it? how is the Admiral taking the new arrival?

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Well thanks for all nods of approval, I was glad to get her. Should be fishing out of her without much work. I believe they called this series Deep Fisherman's in 14' & 16's. I gave $800 for her but the little ones are kinda pricey around here. It included the console on the floor and the wore out steering pulleys. The GF is not amused with her. Drilling noises hammering, radio and paint fumes from the garage and now from the backyard as well. UhOh. Anyway the transom on the jup comes out of the clamps tomorrow and will start with the first coat of spar varnish. Hope it don't fly apart when the clamps come off.

Oh man thats just livin right there. So with that being the ultimate goal of this project here is where I am at now. Got the transom out of transom lock down and surprisingly it didn't fly apart. I test fit it, then did a little trimming then sanded it and i'am happy with it. I am going to go with about 4 coats of spar varnish. I have a 6 more holes to patch in the transom skin. I was wandering did you guys mark and drill your holes for the knee brace and the 4 on each side at this point or wait till it was sealed up. Hey its almost the weekend. Anyway the transom pics.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Things are looking great on the Jupiter and nice job on the transom. 14' was a nice find and should be a great boat for you. Still looking for just the right one for myself.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

agree with Dozer (every so often i do something right..). pre drill, then pull it and either thinned epoxy or spar in the holes, then drop back in place. i actually paid it flat and put blue tape across bottom of holes then filled em....most of it soaked in and only a little dripped out when i pulled the tape.

looks great so far. i like your QC supervisor in the truck bed.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Now that's the best idea I have heard on here ever!!!!!!! "I am working on my boat so I have to get another one to use until I am done". Thank you AJ I will inform my wife of the new mandatory policy of the starmada.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Well CP I learned that right here on this forum and it has worked for some other guys as well. The girl friend just rolls her eyes and asks me where I am going to put "that boat". I just hope the SS deal of a lifetime I am looking for dosn't come along right now. Not much to report on boat work just watching varnish dry. Gotta do a few more patches and two more coats of spar on the transom.
