Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Hey Bro, don't fret on the Deal of a Lifetime. Something sweet comes along you know who to call. I can help you make it happen, see I don't have a boat just yet so we can work something out so ya don't miss out. You getting anything done today? or is it a bit hot out there for ya. Starting to get real nice here finally.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

The update for the last week. Transom is in with 5 coats of spar on it. Splashwell is back in and sealed with 5200. really glad to get past this stage . I worried about every hole I drilled and probably stressed more then I needed to looking back. I did the drain tube install using the ball been hammer method. I had a 5lb clamped to the out transom the put a ball peen on the inside hit it with another hammer to flare it then used the slightly rounded face on the hammer to finish it. It turned out pretty good. The sw, is kind of a pia to put in place but finally dropped in. The rest of the time has been spent working on the mirrocraft to get it ready, I might have to start a thread over in the repair and resto section on it. Anyway here are the pics on the transom work and drain tube install.

Will have to get the transom cap on then figure out whats next. Flotation and floor, Prep and paint top sides and transom?

A Jupiter going back together! :D The hammered transom drain looks A-One. Good thing you had enough hammers. :):):) I counted three. Nice seal job, too. AJ is rockin' and rollin'.

Transom looks great AJ!!!

I love the way those drain-tubes ended-up... now I wish I owned a large ball-peen...I suppose that's what neighbor's garages are for

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Yea jb and barato all good sources I've used before. You ever notice how really cheap hammers go for at garage sales. So the work on the Jup has been getting the transom cap back on and fairing some holes in the transom skin to prep for paint. I have been working on the mirrocraft also to get it ready to fish in three weeks so that is taking boat money right now. The plan for the Jupiter is to get the topsides and transom painted as I have all the paint and primer and spend the money on the MC. I think I will start a thread on it in the resto section. I will post a few pics here as I make progress on the jup. Gotta find the $ for flotation that I will look at while at Lowes tomorrow getting more ply for another transom. I kinda like make these transoms for some reason, maybe it just the spar gettin to me lol.

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

Hey Barato, xylene uh I will have to check that out. Is that gonna get me another one of those " whats that smell coming from the garage and no one to bring me a beer for the rest of the day looks from the girlfriend". cp your memory is working pretty good. Note here stay away from the xylene if you want it to stay that way. I had not seen those yet so I will check it out. I am not sure if he has settled on a model yet, it just has to strike him just right ya know. So anyway it is payday and I'am off to the lumber yard. Thanks guys.

with apologies to BB King, "the sawdust flies on Friday..."

seriously, i use xylene because it's slower evap than acetone or toluene. and yes, it will fry your brain and liver if you inhale enough of it, like all volatile solvents i'm aware of. i once rep'd a 17 yr old kid who had no brain left due to huffing paint

Re: My Jupiter rebuild

We went fishing for couple weeks in June and since then AJ has been workin too hard, not fishin enough and slacked off on the Jupiter project. A promotion at work and huntin season stole most of his time. I been workin on getting him back in the swing with the Jup. and keep an eye out for a boat in his area for my project. Me, I am still looking for that Starcraft project to bring home. I just retired due to a injury lots of time now and will be ready to get after it soon as we warm up a bit in the next 6 weeks.
