Re: My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport
Once the cobwebs wore-off this afternoon, I ran with Grandad's suggestion and removed the Bow ribs.
These were a bugger to remove. Here's why. When those ribs cross the bow-plate seam rivets, they're not tight against the hull-skin. What happens is that the rivet flairs out under the rib flange. In addition, residual epoxy helped lock it in place.
So whachyagottado is this. Get the bucktails off...I drill most of the material away and use my trusty chisel to smack it away. Then gently pry-off the rib.
So, the area under the rib is some of the nicest material on the hull  There's some shallow pitting under the flange where the epoxy was able to reach but nothing of concern. I'm glad that I did it...can't put a pricetag on peace-of-mind!
Lastly, I locked the gunwale & shelf to the big support near the console with some honkin' 3/16" solid rivets...when I started positioning the gunwale, a few of those rinky-dink, corroded pop-rivets in the gunwale cap popped-off so they got replaced with 5/32" solid rivets. I'm going to have to truncate the gunwale trim under the console but its worth it.
Thanks for stoppin' by! :yo:
