Re: My first boat restoration, I need some guidance - PLEASE HELP!

sphelps, That is absolutely a real gator in my lap. I love alligators and will jump at the opportunity to hold one every time it exists. Too bad they get so big because I would have a few. Thanks for stopping in and encouraging me on. Feel free to stop in anytime. I have learned a little about those bubbles. Glassing in the transom before putting it in the boat was a real learning experience for me. Those edges - wow. Good thing I am determined and not a quitter cause it was a true test. Then I made those huge fillets while tabbing in the transom and had to grind them down some. It is fun learning though. I just ran out of light on that last layer and was pushing to get the dogs fed and walked so I walked away from it faster than I should have. WOG warned me about the epoxy wanting to bubble as it dries. No biggie, I LOVE GRINDING!:facepalm:

Thanks Trooper, Things were going pretty smoothly until the final coat. I guess I got a little overly confident with my glassing skills, but the bubbles put me back in check. lol. I will say that I have read on other threads about the respirators and I have been using protection, but I am not happy with it. I Sweat a lot so the half face respirator and goggles just do not work. I feel like I working blind more than not. So I am currently looking for a full face respirator that has anti fog technology. I know I saw a thread here that talked about them so I am gonna look those mentioned up and hopefully have a better respirator. I am sure it is all in my head but sometimes I feel like I am getting that crap in my lungs.

I need to check in on your project Trooper. I have not done that in a few weeks. Hope things are going well for you.

Wood, Great thinking. I had totally forgotten about that. I was taught that in scuba diving but it has been a while since I have been scuba diving. GOD, you are THE MAN! Thanks for the link to that mask too. I have been looking at several but not sure which was best. Going to order that today.

So I got a call from the neighbor ladies today asking if I was depressed or sick. I say no why? They said, well you're not working on your boat. So I guess that is why I get so much done so quickly on the boat project. lmao

Finally got the last layer on the transom down without bubbles this time. YAH!

Next up is another round of house hunting, Man this place apartment is a wreck. Has anyone seen the cleaning lady lately?

That's a very clean good looking glass job you did. That should hold up way longer than our lifetime.
Great work.

I Really got to figure out how to do so many quotes in one reply like you pros do.

Wood, I would be honored to do a transom or anything else for you -- anytime. Just yell. I have learned so much from you already. I am just thrilled to have iboats and guys like you guiding me through this. Got my thoughts going on what type of boat will be next ;)

Decker, Thanks for the compliments. I hope it last forever. I am sure the nieces and nephews will want it when I am gone!

Thanks Troy, I have learned a lot from your work too. I just wish I was half as skilled as you and Wood are. I guess there is still time and I do love to take on new projects.

Jb and GT, thank you guys for the compliments. It is nice to have so many of you stoppin in and giving your thoughts, especially since I am following many of your projects too. I see lots of great work going on and it gives me something to shoot for. Wait til I actually have a house again and either a workshop or a garage. There is no limit with all of you at my side.

GREAT BIG THANKS TO YOU ALL!!!:D

Now if I could just find that damn cleaning lady. This apt is a wreck!
You know part of the problem is that I have become addicted to iboats. You guys are the first thing I think of in the morning, and the last thing I think of at night. Throughout the day all I wanna do is cruise through iboats. I sure hope the boss does not find out cause it might not go over so well! ;) I am even thinking of upgrading my phone to have internet so I can stay tuned in more. :) Last night I was up til 3 am catching up on Troopers thread. WONDERFUL, but where does time go?

At the bottom right corner of a post window is:
Reply ____" Reply With Quote ____ "+

You just click the "+ of every post you also want to quote, then the last post you want to quote you hit Reply With Quote....

Iboats will put a bunch of text & code in your post window when it opens

easy;)

If there are smile icons & pix in the quoted post, you can only post 6 TOTAL, including all the texts you quoted. If you don't need to have the pix included w/ your quote, you can delete them from your post, and that will save room on the servers.

Jb, thanks. That does sound easy. I appreciate the tip.

Now for reality, just got a call from the boss. The company she works for has been having some financial problems due to business decisions made by the previous CEO and as a result of the lingering economy issues. Today the word was official: closing the plant at the end of the year. :( Do not know yet if there will be any offer to relocate and stay with the company or not. Hope to hear more in the coming weeks. Meanwhile our house hunt goes on hold and I will be focusing some attention on finding another rental for us in the
Garland, TX area. At least that will bring our family back together, then we will wait to see what is in store for us next. If anyone lives in the Garland, Mesquite, Dallas, Plano, Rockwall, Rowlett, TX area and knows of a rental that would allow 2 dogs I am interested!

Perhaps my next project needs to be a house boat! ;)

Here's my take on it. If God wanted you to stay in that job, there's nothing anyone could do about it. If he does not want you to stay in that job, you sure don't want too! In other words, it's all in God's hands. Do everything you can to take care of what you can and leave the rest to him. Oh, and try your best to stay out of his way!!!! That's the part I have a hard time with.

I agree totally.
The economy is still pretty good in the DFW area. Take a look on Craigslist. You may find something there.
I'm on the other side of the metroplex, west of Fort Worth, so not much help here, not for the area you're looking at. Good Luck! Oh, by the way, I've got to say, you're doing a Great Job on that boat! I don't believe I would even attempt it in an apartment parking lot!

Omg, it worked!!! Wow, I am starting to get use to this. Look out, might just get some video downloaded some day!

Wood, you are so right. I guess I should be a little worried, but I really am not. I truly believe that the homes we have looked at have been so bad for a reason, and the 2 we did inspections on went bad for a reason. I completely believe God is taking us somewhere and these are just "obvious" signs that we are not there yet - that this is just part of the path. I always pray that God give make it obvious because I do not do hints well. LOL. Well, I would say it has been pretty obvious so far. Ultimately I could live out of a tent, as long as the boss is happy, I am happy.

your welcome :d

sorry to hear about the plant closing. Hope ya find a boat building & pet friendly temp place soon. Good thoughts your family's way

JB, Thanks so much for the kind words. I am sure the next place will be more pet and boat friendly. We know a bit more of what to look at now.

Trooper, I am telling you, I am getting addicted to you guys! You all make me laugh, and ed u ma kate me too.

Oh sphelps, you said it. A garage and / or a house boat. Hmmmm. The wheels are turnin!

i agree totally.

a1964, Thanks for stopping by. It actually seems like in a number of ways the market is starting to look up, yet others are just starting to feel the squeeze. Thank God, my partner is great with money and we are prepared. Still, I do not believe she will be out of a job. The guy that just brought her back to the company has great respect for her management skills and he is insisting on taking her with him to the next location. Just have to see if that really is offered in the coming weeks or what. We are very blessed and my gutt tells me we will be fine in this.

Thank you all for listening to my initial venting, and for all your kind words, thoughts, and prayers. Keep your chins up and your glassin down! Going to go spend some family time so there won't be any progress on the boat for a bit, but I will be checkin in on all your projects.

Thanks, AJ
