After cleaning, i used a firm tooth brush to get all the loose stuff off then used shop vac to suck it up. After that used same tooth brush and warm water and used a rag to dry it one area at a time.

Hey stretch, welcome back, nice job on the cleaning. I think this thread should be renamed to "My First and Second Boat 1962 MFG".

It's a great thing that you could get her back. I understand the attachment. I restored my dad's boat. I still have my grandfather's old outboard to go through and get running again. Lots of memories fishing with the outboard. It was purchased the summer after I was born so it has been a part of my summers since I can remember.

My grandfather passed before he could use the boat and my gram said how excited he was when he got it.

I'm sorry to hear that. The ownership of the boat must have made him happy even if he didn't get to use it. I know I have gotten just as much pleasure working on my boat 4 hrs away from the lake as I have gotten from using it. Weird but true. Just having the boat in the garage to tinker on all winter is a plus for me. I actually miss having the boat home during the summer because I want to finish it. I do have my hands full with projects around the house but these aren't nearly as rewarding as boat work. Good luck with her, she is a beautiful starting point. I will be following along to see how she turns out. One step at a time is the best advice I can give you. Read some rebuild threads and get an idea of what the sequence of disassembly and rebuilding should be for you and your budget. It doesn't all have to get done in one year. Make it safe and use it for a season.
Make it pretty the next. Good luck

Thanks i dont have much left to do as i did a bunch before sold it. Ive redone steering, new controls new head cause helicoil came out of old one not to mention the stuff my parents did to the motor. Ive gotta finish wiring trailer, seats and it looks like a prop as this one is chipped from dragging it on bottom.

Sounds like just a little movement/flexing on the deck from years of riding in chop or waves ... My deck had a few hairline cracks in the gellcoat also ... I rolled a couple layers of new gellcoat on mine .. Haven't really came back yet that I have noticed .. Probably nothing to worry about ...
