Re: my first boat 1962 mfg

Well if it were me I would adhere it to the deck with some pb then tab and glass into the deck . But then that raises the? how to keep the pb out of the pre installed bolt receivers . Maybe duct tape over before the install ?
I have done this same pad but I just lagged bolted the seat pedestal down imbedded in 5200 ..
The good thing about the T-nuts is you don't penetrate the floor deck.

You should do as sphelps said and PB to the deck, then tab them in... just cover the T-nuts with something or get some sacrificial bolts that go all the way to the bottom and smear some grease on the threads, then PB away...

PB=Peanut Butter...not the kind you eat, but the kind that is made using a mix of resin, cabosil and chopped strands...here is a link to a ton of great fiberglassing information...used like a glue... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=286013

Tabbing in is a procedure of resin, CSM and 1708 to tie in structural components to one another in building a boat...check out the links in "woodonglass" signature for some clarification...

Here's how to make Peanut Butter. It's thickened resin mixed to the consistency of Peanut butter so you can glue the pads to the deck. For your purposes you can leave out the Chopped milled fibers you don't need them. I just put masking tape over my T-Nut holes when I glued my pads down.

Tabbing is taking 3" strips of CSM (Chopped Strand Fiber) and Laying it up the sides of the pads and down onto the deck and applying resin to it. Kinda like Taping Sheetrock wall joints.

How strong is the pb as glue cause I'm 6'5" and bout 250 just don't wanna see it coming unglued with I'm driving boat. What are the different things I could use to thicken it.

I'm 6'3, 305 and mine work just fine. It's strong as it can be. When you tab it in with the glass it will never come loose. If you are really concerned, use a 3" strip of 1708 biaxial cloth as a final tabbing over the CSM tabbing. I promise it will never break loose. Typically Cabosil is used to thicken the resin as the video explains. www.uscompsites.com is a good place to get supplies.

I was just thinkin, have you determined that the transom, deck and stringers in this old girl are all good to go? You may end up ripping the deck out of her to replace everything later.

From what I've gathered the stringers are glass and deck is bout 3/4" thick glass (no wood underneith) and the transom is solid ( haven't drilled into it yet though but I put lot of pressure on clamps for outboard and it didn't bow or do anything). And I've also hit back of it and sounds solid not hollow or echo.

Well, to be sure you should drill into the transom down low and check the shavings. Good that it has no flex but still... best to know and core sample will tell the tale. I've never heard of a solid 3/4" fiberglass deck. MFG did make a molded floor so if it is thats great. Some mfg's back in the day, did make 100% hollow core Glass stringer systems. It does have floatation foam in it and if it's water logged it can add a lot of weight to the boat. You might want to drill a hole in the deck to investigate that. Not trying to be a worry wart, just making you aware.

Ok ill have to check below deck and I was estimating the thickness I know there's no wood under it cause there's a hole the diameter of pinky cause ill have to put flashlight in it to see if there's foam

Looks like I'm gonna have to look at it and see if its soaked or not. If there is any in there I'm sure its gonna be soaked cause there was 300 lbs of water and leaves in it when I got it( unless whoever did transom took foam out)

Re: my first boat 1962 mfg

Took look under deck and shined flash light / poked threw holes with stick and its a lil damp. Also noticed that there's a channel that goes lenght of boat where drain plug is and under deck bout 12"s from the sides there is glass under deck that also goes the lenght of it. If I drill 2 holes (one on each side will this be enough to "dry" foam out.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but waterlogged foam will never dry out. It has to come out, and be replaced. Can you tell how deep it is.

Yeah, that sounds about right for the Moulded MFG deck. You might want to post some questions on www.fiberglassics.com Those guys might know more about the substructure of the boat etc
