If the stringers are only that tall then I'd use the Pink or Blue slab stuff from the Big Box stores

Ok Wood so i was looking at your drawing on how you build your transom and it shows two layers of 1708 first layer i assume goes cloth side out right. On the second layer is were my question is do i put the CSM out or cloth side out when layering 1708

Re: my 14' tom boy project

CSM side ALWAYS goes down. The styrene in the Resin actually dissolves the CSM and makes it one contiguous liquid with the resin aiding in the bonding with the previous layer. Scuff the transom with 60 grit when you're ready to lay the first layer and then just as soon as you lay the first layer of 1708 get the second layer ready so when the first layer sets up and is still tacky lay the final layer of 1708 that way they will bond together as one.

Re: my 14' tom boy project

Anyone have any tips and or tricks to cut my pieces of glass to fit the hull on the inside of the transom so I have no wrinkles. I was going to try to cut it like I was laying a piece of carpet laying around stairs

Cut it so it will wrap around the sides about 8" and down onto the bottom 8". Use masking tape to tape it over the top of the hull and let it drape down to the bottom. Cut out the center "Dip" section leaving 2" extra. on the bottom cut the corners so you can overlap them and make the corners lay flat. Use your hands and and a paint brush to smooth it all out during your "Dry Run". Once you've got it in place and it seems to fit like you want it start Rolling on your resin from the top down. I always have a chip brush on hand to "Dab" the corners in and keep em tight. Make sure you've got enough resin, Inside the boat ready to be Mixed so you can keep going once you start. Have your bubble roller handy too!

Re: my 14' tom boy project

Thanks thats a big help me and my dad are going to knock that out this weekend unless it rains..i was looking at this floatation foam on marinefoam.com and wow that stuff is quite pricey $92.00 for a 2'x4' sheet 2" thick does that sound right just seem high for foam but i really have no idea. i live in the "STICKS" so finding a Big Box store could be hard to do

Re: my 14' tom boy project

Ok I have a question about my stringers originally when I removed them they were placed in random places on was 2" off the transom one 2I 1/4 2 1/2 just no consistency at all should I just run with 2" or extend them to the transom
