Re: my 14' tom boy project

welli started glassing my stringers tonight got one done before dinner then stupid Missouri weather the temp went below 60 soooo im now at the mercy of mother nature was wanting to get my stringers glassed in this weekend but we have a cold front moving in and not going to hit 60 until noon tomorrow. Also chance of rain hope what i did earlier tonight cures okay. The resin isn't wet but still a little tacky hope it will be okay. what little resin that was left over in the mix bucket was hot so i think it will be okay. although im rather new to fiberglassing. Will it cure okay?

Make one of these from a scrap piece of 2x4 drill a hole to fit the shank of the bit. Use a VS Drill and go slow until you get through the glass. Watch for the point to come thru the other side then drill from that side to finish.

Use one of these...

Well just over the top and down the sides right they are not in the boat yet. What do you mean by Tear

Ok, Have you looked at the drawings in the first link of my signature? If you are precoating the stringers outside the boat and then putting a layer of CSM on them you should cut the CSM about an inch and a half larger than the stringer and then coat it with resin when it tacks go along the edges and pull "Tear" the CSM so that the edges are Hairy with glass then using a brush coated in resin Dab the Hairy edges over the edeges of the stringer. When dry, flip the stinger and do the same thing on the other side. After you install in the boat follow the drawings.

Re: my 14' tom boy project

Oh yea I got printouts of them so I can quick reference them as I need to. I have been tearing it just like that just those little bitty stringers are hard to work with that's all. I got two more sides to finish and its time to install

Re: my 14' tom boy project

I was wondering can I fiberglass when its raining out my boat is in a uninsulated shop. This weather seams to be stuck in this weekend rain cycle and is really slowing me down. Will I be okay as long as my temp is goodd

Sure you can, as long as it doesn't get wet. Just know it might get a bit "White and cloudy" but won't effect it. You might up the MEKP just a tiny bit so it will cure a bit faster and hotter. Other than that... get busy glassin.

Always ask questions!! chances are someone is on who is willing to give advice... during the day i look at these forums and over 100 people are online looking at the Boat restoration portion of this forum.
