The Canton Racing pan just has full length increased capacity baffeled resivor. It's for in I/O application. Holds 8qts. Overkill, maybe.

Id cut the studs if you know how. Personally, I am not good at it.

First, install the tray at the proper height/distance from the crank, and be sure the engine still spins and the crank weights clear it.
Mark were the nuts are threaded to so youll know how much you CAN take off.

Id run the tray. But thats just me. You paid the extra money for more HP, no tray with cancel out some of that.

I would really like to find a windage tray and factory style pan somewere other than spending 300.00 on one. My dipstick is on the port side same as oil filter

it has oil in it when u get it...no break in instructions, i would just run about 4 good heat cycles taking the revs up a bit each time then change the oil when finished...How we do all our race motors for years now...

Mine did not come with oil at this rate I will never make it to break in. It has been one thing after another. I figured I was going to put something on the motor. So I grabed the oil filter adapter opened it up and go figure missing the gasket to install it mr gasket decided not to pack it in the package. I hope I can buy that gasket locally tomorrow. Unless it is in the gasket kit that came with the motor but I don't think they are in there.

A stock filter adapter to screw the filter to the block doesnt use a gasket.

Well I talked to moroso and I have the numbers for windage tray and oil pickup I also told them it is hitting the front studs he said make sure the pan has not been tapped up there or small bend he said I can use it if I take a block of wood and add the clearance or may have to file the top of the stud till it clears. I also was only hitting by about a 1/8 that was also with no gasket so the good one piece gasket should fit.

Denting out the pan seems like a better option than the file... Good thinking. No one will see it anyway.

Well I have a windage tray and oil pickup screen and oil pump stud coming will all be here tomorrow I love jegs being only one day. I also called mr gasket and they said I have old directions and no gasket is needed. Also I can't remember it has been years since I have built a motor but you don't use a gasket between the oil pump and block correct. Also does anyody have a picture showing were and how the coil is mounted since I bought a new delco est distributor I have to figure out mounting info.

Oil filter adapters never have used a gasket, you can make sure the mating surface is flat by putting a sheet of emery cloth on a sheet of glass and scrubbing it back and forth, that may help it to seal to the block. The coil mounts to the intake manifold, there are 2 mounting bosses between the carb and dist. 5/16 nc bolts. Oil pump to rear main cap doesnt use a gasket. Question, why dont you put in a remote oil filter? Sure makes life easyer when servicing.

On my own rebuilds I break them in on 10w30, about 10 hours run time, short bursts of wot, avoid prolonged periods of steady rpm. After about 10 hours I change oil and filter, use Mobile1 15w50 drive it normaly, but thats just my method, others may differ.

Okay well motor is in and is pretty striped still since they way I have to put it in I need it as light as possible. I just ran down to the parts store to get metal line and some fittings to run my fuel line in metal instead of all this rubber that previous owner did. I just want to make sure before I start bending and flaring. It goes from the tank to the in on the pump then to the water seperator from there to the fuel regulator then my fuel gauge then to carb correct. Also I have to get a sight tube from somewere that runs from the 3rd line on pump to the carb looks like it is just maybe clear 1/4 inch fuel line correct and it is just a press fit correct no clamps.

Re: ordering motor in morning have you ever heard of

I got a couple more things done on it tonight and noticed all the wires going to the alternator are not right half are not even hooked. I have a part number 817119-2 alternator and I have a red, black, orange, purple. Them are all in the factory wire harness then there is one more wire that is red and it is seperate that goes from the battery and just hanging down In the bilge ran over there and I know which stud it was on I think. But am confused were the rest of these all go.

Also my rear shift cable that goes to the out drive does not look like it is sitting right with the motor in I can't find a good picture showing were it runs I can't remeber if it runs under the rear mount or above I really need a good picture showing down at the bellhousing so I can see were the cable should be ran when it comes through the transom. I want to figure this out before I get much more stuff bolted on in my way.

Re: ordering motor in morning have you ever heard of

Okay everything is done pulled the boat out and hooked the hose to it and it will not start I am not getting fuel I have a sierra pump number 18-7283 That I bought to replace the car one that was on here. I also made all new fuel lines. So I am running from the tank to the in on my water seperator then out of seperator to in on fuel pump which is labeled as the bottom one then coming out the out the top fitting and going to regulator then gauge then filter then carb. I know it is fuel related since I can poor a little in the carb and hit will start for a second. All my fuel lines are ran correct or did I mess something up. Or did I buy the wrong fuel pump since I had to go with a 68-79 motor since I needed port side dipstick.

Try drawing from a remote can straight to the pump and see if it will prime and start, also do you fell a suction from the in port of the pump when turning it over?, Is the pump installed correctly? Hope you figure it out good luck!

Ayuh,... A remote tank is a good idea for figurin' it out...
So I am running from the tank to the in on my water seperator then out of seperator to in on fuel pump which is labeled as the bottom one then coming out the out the top fitting and going to regulator then gauge then filter then carb.

What's with the regulator, 'n other filter,..??

Is there any gas gettin' to the 1st filter,..??
Is there any gas in the tank,..?? Can't it get out,..??

Prefill the cannister filter to help the pump...

Re: ordering motor in morning have you ever heard of

I was told from edelbrock to run a regulator and gauge and I always have ran a inline filter right before the carb. I also filled the the water seperator filter before I put it on. I also have a 1/4 of a tank of fuel in the boat. I will go take out the regulator gauge and inline filter and run straight from pump to carb. I don't have any gas in a seperate gas can right know to try or I would.
