Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

OK dumb question and please don't think I'm being silly, but don't all dogs swim naturally? It's cool to bling out the pup, but does it actually work?

And the work on the interior is really nice, love the seats and new bases.

Yes, they do...However, in an emergency situation, which is really what these are for...like any creature, they can't doggy paddle indefinitely...

The Admiral always makes our dog wear one.. She says if we hit a stump or something and the dog flies out of the boat and gets knocked out he will at least float.. (LOL)

I think SP need to put that one in the dryer a few times..:pound:

I don't think that that would fit any of the dogs we've had either.

Ours have been Great Danes; just a little on the larger size.
You could prolly use a pfd for humans on those dogs .
She looks miserable, kinda how I felt last time I had a life jacket on....:)
Yep you should have seen the look on that poor dogs face . Kinda like having to put on a bunny suit that your grandma made for you for your tenth birthday .
These ain't cheap, but they seem like a real nice quality item and they have a good fitment guide...K-9 Float Coat...
Fitment guide...Ruffwear Life Jacket Fit Guide
For 80 bucks I think the dog will have to swim ..

Thanks Gbf ! That was one of 3 dogs that size . You should see some of the outfits my wife and daughter make those pups endure .

Yeah thats the idea behind them ..

Be carefull which doggie vests you buy, and aware of what you want them to do. Make sure that they are for an unconscious dog to float with it's head above water in a vertical position. The others ONLY help float your dog if it is swimming on it's own power. Both have their merits but if life safety is concerned, only one will suffice.

Took the boat out today . I raised the motor up 1 hole because while on plane the vent plate was pretty much under water . I had to do a little custom/butchery of the sides of the splashwell so the steering cable and arm would clear . Gunna break out the sewing machine and make some little panels with velcro or snaps to hide the carnage ..
Moving the o/b up did add a mph to the speed and seemed to make it handle a little more stable . The vent plate is still covered with a little water while on plane but much better than before .
Should I fill the gap under the mounting bracket now that it's up above the transom ?
Did manage to wet a line while we were out . Not much biting . Chris caught a just undersized black drum and a whiting . All I got was a sunburn !
Hope everyone had a nice weekend !

The more I read about motor height placement, the more I realize just how much of a difference an inch or three can make to both performance and handling...

It's not just the length of the shaft but more of how it relates to the bottom of the hull's planing surface height . At least that's how I explained to the Admiral ..

This one's keyboard is all sticky from the diet coke fountain that just eminated from my nose ^^^

You might send a notice of pending back charge to Ms. Friderday as well ;)

Good to hear you made it out today, sorry a little sunburn was all you were able to 'catch'.

Have a great week

Sorry to hear the fishies weren't biting. :fish2: The bugs were making up for them here though.

Hope I'm not gonna have shaft envy after reading your post Sam!

Glad you had a good 4th!

Oh my gracious, jb....I can just visualize your nasal venting! It has been hard for me to hold back on the comments, so I will continue my restraint. On a serious note....Sam-couldn't agree more. We had some squirrely times when we first put the 48 spl on the last restore(the son's). He was in quite a quandary as the engine just needed to go down a smidgen as the boat was loose & porpoising. Felt like we were hydroplaning & going to jackknife at any moment. As he had already finished his transom, he chose against notching it out & instead going the jackplate route. (My advice was to notch, but I should have told him to jackplate seein' as he always does the exact opposite!). It amazes me what difference an inch or two can do for not only the boat handling, mph, etc. etc....Whew....there.....I did it.....kept this post professional & informative...(note to self...you will encounter performance problems whether the shaft is too deep relative to the planning surface of the hull or if it is too shallow...positioning is critical!....got it!!)

Nice looking Morse
Based on the SInger 15 I think, ought to serve you well. Same maker as WOG's initial machine just an older vintage.

That is a VERY GOOD Machine. It will sew 8 layers of vinyl with no issues. All metal construction. You'd love using it, but...now that I have a walking foot...There IS no comparison, NONE!!!

I used an old Kenmore for the MFG seats Gus and it really struggled . Not planning on any thing in particular but I'm not ready to hang up the sewing shears just yet . I want to make a cover for the boat at some point ..
I may hold out for a w/f ... The Morse just jumped out at me and seemed like a good deal ..

That IS a good Deal. My wife thinks I'm CRAZEEEE cuz I have 5 sewing machines now. My daughter has my original Morse, I have another Morse 4300 that was given to me cuz it was "Broken" but I fixed it, I still have the Old Kenmore from way back, and then I have the 2 industrial machines. Funny thing is, I want another one too. I want the 1940 Singer Model 66. Ever since I saw this video...

You MIGHT wanna start looking for one of these. I AM!! So far I've found em for around $150 to $200. I'm hoping to stumble onto someone that doesn't know the value and just wants to get rid of it. I really don't know WHY I think I need it!!!!
