That suxs... but at least you didn't have to put him down.

That last bit of devotion (trip to the vet) to your best friend is really hard.

Agree, sure lucky not having to put him down
Had to put my almost 17 year old buddy down last month. That vet trip was really ruff.

Sorry for your loss MRS. It's a blessing when you don't have to make the decision. I've had it both ways, and having to make the decision and follow through on it is really tough. You've got me thinking about the last buddy we lost now.

Until you get another buddy, this will continue. Everywhere I look I see Tigger, next to the bed, the chair, in my lap, out in the shop, just everywhere.

I'm trying for the first time to see if I can get by without a buddy, and so far its not working very well

I sort of have always taken the easier way out by always having two. Unable to remember when I didn't have a buddy other then in the 70's when in the USCG. The easy way is to always have two, one old and one young.

When the old one goes, the younger one helps get ya past it. Then get a pup and start again. Mitzi (on the left) passed about 5 years ago and Tigger last month. They both loved the water

Mitzi was are pontoon (only moved her front legs and her back never got wet), and Tigger was the speed boat (only her head out of the water and did circles around Mitzi)

Bentlies litter mate will be looking for him our friends got the litter mate they were rescue dogs. Ginger loves the water will swim in front of Bentley cause he would only go in up to his chest. He would try to pull her out of the water but she would stay just out of his reach. Love the photo of your dogs.

The Admiral and I like to think when ours leave us it's because they are ready and just know another rescue dog that would fit into our family is out there waiting for a good home
Lessens the loss and certainly improves the life of another rescued dog.

We've been a 2 dog house almost as long as we've been together, over 30yrs, all but the 1st were rescues and 1 was a found dog. Took him to the vet the day we found him and spent a week tracking down his owner.
Gave him back @2p on Sun and it nearly broke my wife's heart to lose 1 to old age, find 1 2wks later, nurse him back to health for a week and loose another by giving him back. Went straight to the shelter, found her a major cuddle bug dachshund/cocker spaniel mix and brought him home.
Next day @430p when I was headed home, that owner called said the 1 we found still wasn't getting a long w her other 2 dogs. Which is why he'd had some war wounds and ran away. If we wanted him back, we could have him. Oddly enough he was their 1st dog, the aggressive problem dog seemed to be the new addition. Couldnt understand giving away the 1st they'd had for 5yrs and keep the aggressive one... Picked him back up @545p and just like that we were a 3dog house.... Thick as thieves those 3 were..... 3 happy amigos for 7 or more years including a cross country move.

Sorry for your family's loss, hope the too long post above helps...

Our rescue dog of 9 years ... Maggie is my hemmorhoid ... she is always up my butt! I am tripping over her all the time. I am the one that did NOT want her, but she seems t have chosen me as the alpha dog of her pack ... they sure do grow on you!

Absolutely sorry to hear this. In some way they seem to be just as much part of the family as everyone else. And it is extremely saddening when you have to part with them by any means. I know I cried like baby with our first dog had to be put down. Yes, men do cry...

From what we have learned of Maggie, she is a mutt ... ha! The vet and the rescue shelter both told us they believe she is part shepherd, part retriever, and part Norwegian Elk Hound. She is certainly a herder when the grand kids are around. And she has been know to jump into the boat when it is on the trailer in the driveway (and I generally use a ladder to get in the boat in the driveway, but she squeezes up by the motor)! Yeah, she likes to go boating!
