We lost our 13+yo GSD this year, and it took me a little while to stop looking for him where he was supposed to be.
Toughest one for me was his granddad who I raised from a pup when I was single. I would come home at lunch just to check on him when he was little. That dog just about knew what I was thinking without even having to say it, lol. My wife used to say we were joined at the hip.
We had a few litters some years back, and I remember one of the most beautiful reddish GSD pups we had (I only remember having one like that) went to a couple who were still grieving the loss of a recently lost beloved dog. Nice to see a special one go to a home like that.
Some of them are once in a lifetime, and not really replaceable. Maybe I'm wrong about that though.
