Re: Is President George W. Bush stupid?
DJ
it does not make your opinion any better or worse than any others regardless of service,
its funny that in this noble war there is not one of the 18 or so military aged Bush's in service.
but you will find those that never trained, stood a watch or fired a weapon cause they were getting fired on tend to beat the war drums the loudest and also tend to over estimate the value of "shock and Awe". rumsfelds planning of this current debacle is a stand out example.
most that served tend to wish to use military action as a last resort and almost all called for more boots on the ground at the start, most were sacked. if shock and awe were actually effective we would have taken Hanoi and shut down the ho chi min trail, neither happened.
about the same with torture, if it worked the NV would have known much more than they did, most their intell came from american spies and channeled through the russians.
so while I respect your opinions and your vote counts the same as mine I would not give a heavy credence to any opinions by a non military member about military matters, same as I dont solicit Dr's advice from plumbers or plumbing advice from Dr's. while I will listen to both about both matters the most heavily weighted one will be towards the one with the professional training.
the study of war is a long long tradition. the only difference in battle of years past and today is the technology, the human factors have not changed much nor has the geographical or tactical positioning.
battles are fun to dissect. sometimes a seeminly superior force gets whacked by an inferior force. sometimes equal opposing forces win or lose and usually it comes down to which side took the best advantage of the terrain and the environment.
another point that got neglected.
its difficult to fight a small, lightly dressed force that has extensive knowledge of the local terrain and environment, with the wrong gear. our guys were dying in 120* heat wearing full military gear and body armour that was not designed for desert operations using equipment not desighned for the almost talcum poweder like sands of the dessert. a buddy told me at first it was a toss up which would kill ya, the enemy or the heat, he said both were incapacitating.
but a full listing of those in the house and senate and congress of military service or not would be interesting.
