Actually Gore didn't say that. His response was an extemporaneous answer to a question during a live interview. If you had an open enough mind to look into the issue you might find that the spirit of what Gore was trying to convey (although admittedly very poorly worded) was probably much more correct than the national joke the right turned it into by misquoting it, quoting it out of context, and applying spin to the point that the statement became a national joke.

I could supply references to the actual history of Gore's statement, his contributions to the creation of the internet, and how the right wing spun the entire issue, but I don't see it as worth taking the time as I don't think most of those on this forum with strong right allegiances would be open minded enough to objectively evaluate the information anyways (no offense intended, but that's my honest perspective).

If anyone is interested and honestly willing to objectively look at the facts, let me know & I'll take the time to post some links (some of which I don't think either side could consider biased).

Hope that was a more polite explaination of me not taking the time to expand on the issue than this:
"THE TRUTH? Lake Livin, You are so right in the speech and the unlikeliness that it would matter.

I don't think he's stupid, and voted accordingly. But I think he is an idiot. He has very little smarts, but he is very cunning. I still think he is the idiot-in-chief, and book smarts and IQ's don't directly equate to sense in real life. Real life smarts require common sense.

And...

From a look at my pocket change, I have alot common cents :D :D :D

Re: Is President George W. Bush stupid?

I dont belive he is stupid, cant get to where he is if your plain stupid, a lot of money and saudi connections help:) :) .
but I do think he has mismangaed his time in office, I think he has fired various members of his advisory team that should have been kept and kept others that he should have fired.
most managers of a large corperation will fire their mother if the rusults are not in the accounting ledger. seems this administrations ledger is in the red. and no one is getting fired.

but in all honesty a single man cannot take on the entire administrations duties, but as the president he is ultimatly responsible. seems if some one under him used poor judgement he should get sacked.
its similar to H R perot, I have met him a few times in person, nice guy. reasonably sharp but he will be the first to tell you the key to sucess is not knowing it all but setting yourself up with those that do and fireing those that fail to perform.
my self I would have liked to see Perot as president but I fully understand why he withdrew.
no way would I want that job :) :) .
so no I really dont think Bush is stupid, I do think world events have given him problems beyond his comprehension and those he surrounded himself with.

I honestly think you should start another thread about this. It is kinda buried here. I, for one, am interested. I honestly don't care about spin, and would love to know the history of that. I think I reviewed the quotes way back when, but don't recall the context etc.

I will share (since this thread was about stupidity  ) a direct Al Gore quote: "I don't want to diminish the threat of terrorism at all, it is extremely serious, but on a long-term global basis, global warming is the most serious problem we are facing." 11/13/05

Re: Is President George W. Bush stupid?

I did not vote in the poll.

It smacks of being personal, and my problem with Bush is not personal. It is his policies I don't like.

And he is clearly not a good speaker, especially when unrehearsed. That is an important part of a leader's job.

He seems to be uncurious, and oddly proud of that trait.

And he likes to surround himself with those that agree with him, and dismiss those that don't. While that may be natural, it is dangerous, and you may not get a full picture of what may go wrong with a particular policy.

All in all, I think he probably earned his status as a C minus student...

Trying to figure out what that says... But what I am thinking you said was that since my signature says Doyle is "Stuck on Stupid" the people who elected him are stupid as well. Yes, that is my "stand" as you put it.

Sean

No doubt PW2. He has got to be the worst speaker in the presidency I've seen and/or heard. It's almost frustrating to watch how unsmooth he is when speaking.

Re: Is President George W. Bush stupid?

Ok, I posted a new topic about Gore & the internet. Long, since I excerpted material from three or four web sites. The site links are included so you can read the full text of the articles. References include snopes.com (the urban legend debunking site) and quotes from Vint Cerf and Robert Kahn, the two men generally recognized as baing perhaps the major technical contributers towards creation of the internet.

Be interested to hear what you think.

Sounds and posts like....jtexas you judge with experience.he,he
ADD is often accompanied by cleverness. Having a short attention span and no intelligence is a recipe for homelessness.

Yes, I understand why that might not be such a great compliment, heck you might run the country just like him.

Actually the next president might not be bad at least there is not a lot of room to screw up this country more than G.W. has, but the clean up may well leave the next administration looking really bad.

Art B,

Cute.

Aren't we "selective" in our list???

But, that's what y'all do is "research" and pick out what you you want. Spoon feed the masses with your agenda, just like the major media, Which is DYING, by the way-people see through the agenda.

I never served, in the military, does that make MY opinion-NULL AND VOID???????
