deeep, I had not thought of the smell in years but yes I do remember smells. dogsdad, Some of the things you mention did occur, not necessarily by intent of the grunts but because it seemed to be the safest thing to do. Not everyone killed was a soldier and some were not the enemy. It was really bad, I promise. I am not trying to support what he did when he got home but I also wrote letters to my congressman supporting getting out of nam. It was a nasty ugly thing.<br /><br />How could you expect me to support a man playing soldier, running around in a military jacket acting like he knows the filth and hell of war. My opinion war is last resort. I would have served again to go after Bin Laden but I would want to have served with the President in his rich kid guard unit before Iraq. That is all I mean when I do not support Bush.

Two things for ya, txs:<br /><br />First, who says Bush is "running around in a military jacket acting like he knows the filth and hell of war"?<br /><br />Second, even if you think we should not be in Iraq, how about exercising some discretion when it comes to saying things that give aid and comfort to the enemy?<br /><br />Maybe some folks---private citizens, I mean---have perfectly good reasons for not supporting the effort in Iraq. But airing all that publicly only hurts America. For politicians to be saying these things publicly is treason. We are at war, and are fighting for our survival.<br /><br />How you could support Kerry at all is truly beyond me---if what you say about your service is true.

I have no intention of proving my service to you, I saw Bush playing warrior riding the aircraft and wearing a flight jacket.<br /><br />If you ever road a river boat under fire you might have an idea of why Kerry's service exceeding what George claimed.

I offered the metaphor that when McClellan muffed ending the civil war a few days after Antietam and failed Lincoln fired him. when Rumsfeld muffed Iraq he got promoted and shielded. the personell that probably should have been in charge got sacked before they had a chance due to politics and Rumsfelds advice, so after the debacle should Rumsfeld suffered the me fate as McClellan? maybe thats a new thread topic.

My son when he was 15 years old and caused a car wreck because he was adjusting the CD player, said to me, "Dad Im not stupid, but sometimes I do stupid things". The fact that he said that is reason enought to have faith in his intellegence.. Bush isn't 15, and I have never heard him say he makes mistakes...

A hero is a man who serves a second tour in Vietnam so his baby brother wouldn't have to see the things he saw. Calling Kerry a hero makes me sick to my stomach. <br /><br />Was Bush a hero? No, but he never pretended he was. He also didn't come back from the war and committ treason.<br /><br />Who cares if someone says they are sorry as long as they don't repeat their mistakes. Words are meaningless compared to actions.<br /><br />If you want to find a real hero it will be very difficult because real hero's never talk about their exploits, they usually have a different measure of what a hero is and how one acts. Funny my buddies grandfather died about three months ago. They were very close but didn't realize until the funeral that his grandfather had a couple of purple hearts, 3 bronze stars and a silver star from WWII. Hero's don't brag. They are usually too humble to even mention their accomplishments. Even to their families and close long term friends.<br /><br />Funny how the left will tolerate, no embrace, a traitor like Clinton as a president, let search for blame in GW.<br /><br />Next time you are looking for a conspiracy just remember it was FDR who put 120,000 Japaneese americans in internment camps. And the left still holds him up as one of the greatest presidents. Was he stupid? Is putting 120,000 citizens in internment camps legal or smart? Did he ever apologize? You know what, it doesn't matter if he did or didn't. Words have little meaning when compared to actions. It was the press who never told the american public that he was in a wheel chair. Were they liars? Or did they have a sense of patriotism and that disclosing this fact might give the enemy some kind of advantage? Did they fail their oath to provide all the information to the public. <br /><br />There is nothing to be gained from this thread but to share OPINIONS and a great deal of false information. But how stupid can a man be that has won a war, took the worst economy in 65 years (per kerry) to one of the most robust economies in the western world. Cut taxes but increased revenues, all this with the backdrop of 9-11 and Katrina. Unemployment is at historical lows, inflation almost non-existent with the oil price fluxuations, interest rates still at historical lows and more people own their own homes than anytime in history. Crime continues to decrease, military reinlistment is very high and military moral is higher now then it has been in 10+ years. Illegal immigration is a problem, mistakes have been and continue to be made. But is he stupid? Next question.

Nice summation Pointer. JB asked why I started this thread/poll early on. I guess it might have been a mistake, but it has stood the test reasonably well. Some minor flareups, but we did OK. It seemed to me like throwing around something like Bush is Stupid was way too easy and I thought it might be better to get that out of the way, as I just don't see it as possible.
