Wow, I'm so relieved to get that off my chest. I've been in the closet with that dark secret for so long now... ;)

Why all the controversy over my posts? Sure, I don't agree with the majority here. I made that clear a while back when a post I started went to 209 replies...

Just to clear up a few things. I am an avid boater. Yes, I like to stir things up a bit perhaps, but in real life I can tell you I have absolutely no enemies. I am very vocal, and say what's on my mind. On this board, it just so happens, I'm in the huge minority, and its a lynch mob mentality it seems.

Here's some info on me, not that it matters, but just in case you are interested.

I'm neither a Democrat nor a Republican, I vote based on the party issues important to me at the time of the election and the running candidate.

I'm NOT a pro-life, Bush supporting, anti-gay rights, or a Christian.
I also don't believe the war in Iraq was justified.

I feel that the basis of a strong society is a solid social safety net (healthcare, childcare, mental health services, and education)

So call me a troll, disagree with me, even threaten to beat me to death, I have the right to extract info from iboats, purchase merchandise from iboats, and contribute to iboats.

So, you don't consider exchanging views and opinions on these forums as "real life"?

Would that also apply to phone calls and letters?

Re: I'm a troll

My wife and I have had the Dem vs Rep discusion many times, especially this year. She claims to be Republican, her entire family is Republican. My family is democrat, but I don't feel I am Democrat or Republican. To further complicate things, I don't feel my wife is Republican either. Here is why:

We both are in favor of abortion AS LONG AS IT IS NOT USED AS A FORM OF BIRTH CONTROL. I have a 13 year old daughter, she was conceived at a very inoportune time in my life, but I never ever considered aborting her. My belief is rape victims, addicts, the very poor and unhealthy should have abortions. The resulting child usually is compromised, unhealthy and becomes a huge burden on society. Healthy adults or teens should carry to term and adopt out their unwanted children. There is no shortage of the need for healthy children by those who cannot concieve.

We both have no problem with homosexuality. It will never go away so it should be accepted, even though it doesn't necessarly need to be embraced by all. Marriage is a religious institution, which does not accept homosexuality. A marriage equivelant should exist that allows gay couples to benefit the same as married, but doesn't need to be called "marriage". Its a word game, not that hard to play. Let those who not agree with the gay lifestyle have the term "marriage", and let those who do agree have the term "union, life partners, whatever" as long as everyone has equal benefit.

we both do not agree with the Iraq war, we felt it was a big enough mistake to not want Bush a second term, but we supported him for his first term. Eliminate the Iraq war, and we had no problem with Bushes other policies. He is now our president for a second term, and we will support him because that is what Americans do.

we do not believe that wealth should be redistributed amoung the populous, I do not believe that people should be allowed to stay on welfare for extended amounts of time. I am not a huge fan of excessive tax, but things have to be paid for somehow.

I have no idea what I could be called because I agree and disagree with both parties just like my wife does. I think the difference between trolling and expressing your views is simple wording. I try to voice my beliefs in a way that does not enrage, it has been percieved that you try to enrage. Just some alterations in wording your view may help out a bit. I'm certainly no expert, but I've been coexisting here with the majority for quite some time without major trauma. Other than my mindless rant yesterday, of which I regret, I still feel we can disagree and still stay within the boundaries of respect. Thats how you avoid the troll label.

Phone calls and letters from strangers?
I'd prefer not to engage in that dialogue. I don't need a pen pal.
:)

Re: I'm a troll

So is it then your philosophy that any written exchange of views on these forums does not effect you or the person/s to whom you are exchanging them with because you don't consider it "real world" but instead an anything goes dialog?I seriously don't get it.

Are you infering that the only emotions you stir are just on these forums ,and otherwise you have no enemies? That's borderlining on bizzare. :D

Re: I'm a troll

Its not that at all. There have been a few instances where I've played devils advocate and pointed out the flip side to a situation, (like it or not), and others have not appreciated it. They say I hijacked the thread or am a troll. I feel more like I removed the rose colored glasses.

As far as allowing emotions into it, well, this section is a chat board. Its pretty much anonymous, although I've got nothing to hide. Hopefully we all know that if you are sensitive, this might not be the best place.

Jason, you brought up some thoughtful points. That was a great post.

Ok,I think we may be getting somewhere now.I haven't read all of your posts since you arrived and perhaps there were some threads that didn't sit well with you. But,it seems since you recently came aboard you have let these few instances you mentioned, make you feel as if everyone here is out to get you and disagree with your viewpoints.Frankly ,I've never met a person whom I disagreed with all of their viewpoints unless they didn't know how to express them without first saying something that was offensive. Not necessarily personally offensive ,but rather just a distasteful comment.Tell you what......from this post forward I will attempt to be as open minded as I can and if you will give me that same benefit of the doubt then I think that you may have just made another friend.A "real world" friend.Just one that you can't see or touch. And no ,I don't mean that kind of touch. :D Or seeing for that matter. :p

Indeed a "troll".

You've never posted, anywhere, on this board except Dockside Chat, from what I can see.

That's OK, most of your posts, from what I can gather, were to incite civil discord. They were not meant to engage conversation but to incite inflamed opinion. Those posts were engaging such reactions not by your subject, but by your response, in most cases.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, it's a duck. In your case a troll. IMHO. That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

Egads, theriver! A rose by any other name is still a rose.
I think I'd be safe to say that you are quite a bit closer to a Democrat than a lofty, thoughtful, middle of the roader. In fact I think we could say that we should color the above description, SOCIALIST.

Re: I'm a troll

Theriver. When SoulWinner posted a short video with a spiritual message, it was meant for those who might take comfort in it or appreciate someones point of view. Your comment was nothing more than poking fun at him and anyone else who believes as he does. How did you expect people would respond to that? If you can't say something nice, say nothing at all. SW wasn't attacking anyone and the topic name was not misleading. You were picking a fight whether you realize it or not. Not appropriate. Start you own thread and talk about your own faith or lack there of, but leave innocent posts alone so those of us who wish to enjoy them can. Thanks.

Re: I'm a troll

Hi Drowned Rat,

First let me say, you're right.

Also let me say,
Whether its the Jehovah's Witnesses who were at my door the other day, or the scam artist Benny Hin on TV living in the lap of luxury faking medical miracles, I'm tired of having people in my face pressing their Religious views. I've read posts from SW including several that are archieved, and they are over the top. His screen name says it all. To try and use this board as a podium for his own private service is inappropriate in my opinion.
