No KF work today. Beginning of the month intervened again. It always does.

I did receive the second set of stainless cleats and picked up replacement rotary tool sanding drums and whatnot.

BWR1953 awesome vacation spot. I'm getting really excited for you as I see the end near in sight. A good way that could save you some time would be not painting that beautiful Hull 😉😁

Great progress. I know the hole filling is almost as much fun as trailer work or stripping paint

No I didn't take any pics as I put them on, now you'd just seem them on with the wire going inside the rub rail.

In that pic selling the nav leds they put them too close to the point of the bow, I gauged mine for the required angle.

If you've ever been out at night for something like a fireworks display, you'll notice that half or more of the boats out there have NO nav lights or lights of any kind for that matter. Add some weather to the mix and those dinky toe stubber lights are not visible very far away and not at all with a TM on the bow deck.

Put in a receptacle with a pole nav light if you're worried about the strips. That's what I did on my SN.

Those LED nav lights look good. I knew about the angle stuff and was thinking of making a giant protractor for the bow to measure the correct angles. Easy enough to set the angles with a blank slate tinny like ours. I do have the pole light for the bow already, courtesy of the donor boat. The stern pole light from the donor is busticated internally so it will have to be repaired or replaced.

I'd also considered inletting the LEDs into the rub rail but the lights are really skinny compared to the RR. I'll get a pic up of the lights I have a bit later today.

I'd always wanted to go to the Potomac Basin for the Independence Day fireworks. Had boats at various times while I lived in the area but just never did get "a round tuit."

How far back from the bow did you mount those strips Waterman?

Back to making progress. The weather was absolutely spectacular for working outside today! :D

Grind down the JBWW, clean, sand. That was the process. Spent a couple hours this morning by myself doing the gunnels inside and the topside of the bow and gunnels and got all the grinding done. I used up more than a half dozen of the little sanding drums on my rotary tool.

Then this evening the boy and I went out for an hour and a half. I started sanding while the boy did some cleaning. After I sanded the console, the boy got to use the Aircraft Stripper one last time. I'd forgotten to strip the inside of the console so we got that out of the way. I'll have to finish it up tomorrow with a second application though.

I got the console, bow and port gunnel topside sanded with 100 grit this evening. Still have to do the inside gunnels on both sides plus the starboard topside gunnel. Then on to 220 grit. Then maybe 400? Ugh. :grumpy:

No KF work yesterday or today. Too many other things going on. Heck, I never even went out to the garage. :grumpy: But I do have great hopes for tomorrow.

BWR1953... A good way that could save you some time would be not painting that beautiful Hull...
Yeah, it's tempting for sure. But with a zillion holes in the gunwales, etc. it would look like a polka-dotted tin can! Seriously though, if I don't paint it now, it would likely never get done. Once everything goes back in and the motor goes on, there's very little incentive to take it all apart again.

Okay y'all....

Speaking of painting, I'm hoping to get the holes done tomorrow so that I'll be able to flip the hull. Other than a really good cleanup, is there anything I need to do to prepare for paint other than the usual stuff and vinegar and whatnot? I'm currently planning on using the roll and roll method except for the SE primer which is a rattle can.

Still plugging along here. Got holes filled, ground down and sanded this morning. As I was going along I found still more very small holes up near the top of the gunnels on the inside. Arghh!

Sometimes less is more. I decided to go with the smallest version of the KF bird logo. I think it's a classy look. :joyous:

And then we were also able to get it lifted onto sawhorses at the stern. All by our lonesome selves. (I just know that I'll pay for that tomorrow!) :nono: :crutch:

Nice job on the "garage launch" and flip!

I see you're doing a tip and roll with Rusto. I'm anxious to see how that turns out for ya. It's alot safer than spraying (i assume you're adding hardener.) I would still go full-bore on PPE; those isos scare the carp out of me!

Welllll.... as predicted, I did injure myself lifting the KF onto the sawhorses a couple days ago. I know, I know. I'm a big dummy!

But at least it wasn't my back or legs. Injured my right elbow and wrist. Just a strain so I rested it yesterday and took some Tylenol. Doing better today but not fully recovered yet. We'll see how the afternoon goes. With osteopenia, I'm supposed to be super careful about stuff like that. But I'm hard-headed sometimes. (See my sig line.)

Today isn't a good day to be out in the metal garage anyway. Big time thunderstorms have been going on since last night and are continuing to slowly move through the area.

The rain has washed my driveway out. I couldn't even take the boy to school with the Genesis this morning! Had to use my truck in order to navigate the new creeks in the driveway!

This video is from earlier this morning but the storms are still ongoing even now.

Wow that was a nasty storm!
Yeah, there were tornadoes in parts of FL yesterday but thankfully, none around here.

The weather is nice again this morning, cool at 55 degrees when I got up although the humidity is still 99%. And my injury seems to be much better today so when it warms up a little more I'll head out to the garage.

The term "gully-washer" comes to mind at the top of my driveway.

Okay, I'm getting totally weirded out about paint! :grumpy:

I did a lot of reading last night and developed the "paralysis by analysis" syndrome.

I already have Rustoleum SE primer which I planned on using for the boat. I also planned on using high build primer from another company (not yet purchased) to cover some of the scratches in the aluminum. Color coats are going to be with Majic Tractor Oil Based Enamel. I already have the white and black.

Originally I thought I'd just use up the rest of my gray porch paint as the topsides color but after doing some reading last night, that paint takes 30 days to fully cure! I don't have that kind of time! So now I'm thinking that I need to buy some Majic in gray as well.

I know in theory that it's best to use the same brand of paint for all aspects of the job.

So what do I do now? I have 2 different brands on hand and a possible third in the wings. :noidea:

Am considering using the console as the test bed. Paint it with the Rusto SE, wait the required time then mix up a small batch of the Majic with Hardener, etc. and apply. Still need to purchase a filler primer though. I guess I should wait for that to happen before testing.

All oil based enamels will take a long time to fully cure, perhaps a little less for you in Florida sun....

It'll be dry to the touch, but still easy to scratch....

Thats why so many use and recommend the added enamel hardener. Harder, quicker cure and less susceptible to scratching.....

BUT if you plan to spray it, the added hardener requires face respirator. Isocyanates... :painkiller:

I messed up last night. Bad. Really bad. Health crisis. Totally my fault for not paying attention to what was happening with my health. So it snuck up on me and bit me. My bad. Should have gone to the ER but didn't. And my wife is not happy with me! :nono: :yell:

But I wasn't paying attention to myself because the boy and I were having fun working on the KF! Does that make it okay? Uhhh... :ambivalence:

These are the paints I'm using. Will also be adding hardener to the Majic once I get that far. And I'll have to buy some gray tractor paint as well. Looks like Massey Ferguson gray will work. I'll be using the roll and roll technique for painting.

Second coat of SE primer applied. Did a third coat as well but then had that health thing and didn't get any pix.

My buddy does great boxblade work.

This is how the drive looked this morning.
