yeah we typically go weekdays. I can drive down and 'work' from his house, he is off on Tues/wed so works well. He's offering his buddys on the East cost to come to his place. Brandenton I think is where he lives.

Just heard that my sister and her family have bugged out of West Palm Beach. I am very relieved. This does not seem like a good storm to ride out...

one of the mega yacht owners was talking to our president a few hours ago. he was going to stay bunkered in his house then he found out Jim Cantore is staying at a hotel less than 30 miles from his house. he is headed over to the Gulf-coast now.

Like I asked earlier - Where are Cantore and Seidel, the bad weather magnets?

Well, the cold-hearted lady Irma is predicted to be a bit west and cruise up the Florida peninsula. Just hung the hurricane shutters on my mother in laws house, so we have a fortified bunker to ride the storn out

Nowhere to hide... this is the 11PM advisory on 9-7-2017.

I've been exploring hotel availability and the vast majority of them are sold out within 500 miles. Ugh. :blue:

Yeah, I might have to go to Idaho or something in order to get out of Irma's way!

The west is burning, so you have to decide which you like better.

I'm in China and was headed to FL for the next two weeks, but the event next week has been cancel, the following week was Tampa, they haven't canceled that yet

People here in China are asking about the hurricane and feel sorry for you.

They wish you the best.

Based on the current conditions of the hurricane I find it difficult that anyone who is going to be impacted by this storm wants to stay in place. Maybe I am a big chicken but I would he headed for the hills. If I had a boat in the predicted area to be affected I would be onboard headed west out of harms way.

With the boat pictured in your Avatar and considering what such looked like in the aftermath on St. Martins, what do you do with yours when weather threatens? I was thinking about St. Martins and other such places, if you could make 20 knots, 10 hours dead reckoning at a right angle to the storm would still leave you exposed, looking for shelter. When I was a kid, around Houston-Galveston I don't know what they did with them....too young to think about it. When stationed in Biloxi, they'd run them up the Biloxi or Pascagola Rivers. On an island, no place to go but to head for the mainland.....I guess.

well this is starting to suck, talking to friends and relatives down there, we have a 50/50 mix of those leaving and those staying. lots of folks to worry about.
just got a pic of traffic trying to leave from one friend. she said it isn't worth trying to get out so they are staying.

I have a pic on my phone of the utility trucks bringing utility poles to south florida. would hate to have a line-mans job, however my guess is they will be working mega overtime.

We've decided not to evacuate out of state.

Our concern is that we might be 500-600 miles from home and not be able to RETURN if the storm really tears things apart down here and the roads are blocked, no gas, etc. I already have reservations at a hotel just a few miles from home. It's concrete and surrounded by a hill, so should be safe.

Irma has shifted even farther west and the eye is now predicted to head right over us as a Cat 2.

We've been doing our prep work here as best we can. My poor health is slowing us down. Got the Kingfisher out of the garage and the Chieftain ready to enter. Once we get the garage cleared a little bit more, the Chief and my wife's new car will go inside. Plus my Craftsman tractor if it'll fit. And some other miscellaneous stuff.

The garage is rated to 150MPH winds and my little double-wide house is only rated to 115MPH, so we'll move essential stuff out to the garage later. We're planning on boarding up the house and also covering the garage windows as well. I wish I'd been able to get power to the garage, but that hasn't happened yet. It was on the agenda for this month but we just ran outta time. :blue:

good luck BWR, I understand the thinking behind that and would probably do the same.

I did already tell my dad I probably would not be able to get down there to help him if needed. I doubt people will be getting into FL for at least a few days. hopefully it will be a non issue and all will be fine. the trailer he is in, was a replacement for a trailer that had sat on that spot for nearly 40 years. my grandmother bought it in the early 70's and when she passed he put a new trailer on the spot. so it has been blessed so far.

wife is in a panic. supposed to get 75mph winds (ok, 90% probablility, so lets assume its going to be blowing). have you ever tried to calm a hot-headed Italian/Norwegian woman?

I guess that Margarita Party is cancelled since the computer models not have the storm tracking up the west cost of Florida. Be safe everyone. My understanding is that if you have not evacuated by now, it may be too late :noidea:

they basically stated, if you evacuate, plan on sitting in traffic. while they just brought in about 1.8 million gallons of gasoline, they still expect a shortage. So now is the time to cinch the helmet and hunker down in the foxhole
