jserb glad to hear that boat isn't just sitting around collecting dust LOL :D

After all your hard work you certainly deserve to enjoy the rig, congrats on the wedding too:)

If I see a boat peeling around Lake St. Clair with a blur of white dual outboards I'll wave and look out for your wake:D

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

I gotta say that is a great boat. Probably the only way I will have a nice bog boat like that is to build one like you did. I am hoping to revive my 18 footer this winter so that I can take my boys fishing again, and then we we get our finances back in order form this economy and the lack of work for my business, I will be able to get me a big project. I do hope that I can get one with working power. I would rather do that and rebuild them then fork out the Big money on power...

Either way, it will be great when I get one started, as I have 3 boys that can help and be a part of it...

sorry to hear about the 100 hp john....but you know...it costs a little more $$ but now you go a little faster! thats sweet to hear about 50 mph! i hope you hit it. hey i saw you got a new project boat, what will that thing do? looks like a 60mph boat bro....
Yeah when i went up to lake st clair we hit up muscamoobay (however its spelled...wired name if you ask me) and then over to anchor bay, then up threw the north channel and down around main channel i belive its called, hit a few bars, deckers, and brownss. Were plannin a trip to chicago next summer. Drive over to the sand dunes and put her in and shoot accross lake michigan. I was lookin for ya at the air races this spring, but i think you were puttin the final touches on her...SOOO NEXT YEAR MAN!

- YOU KNOW the truth is bigger boat, bigger problems.....i found my 20ft center console wellcraft was perfect size and did everything this scarab does. it was less maintance, less winterizing, less docking space, less gas, and less expense...however with that being said, if boating consumes you like it does me, and you have the time and inclination to want to tinker, check on, and use our boat everyday of the summer; then bigger can be better. I deends on how much you want boating a part of your life. Never think a bigger boat will be as simple as your current size. Always remember what works for you, WORKS FOR YOU, the grass isnt always greener on the other side

I hear ya... I am not int he financial situation right now to upgrade, but since I have gotten my boat, I have wanted to start going offshore. Not neccessarily the 90 miles out to the Gulfstream (although that would be nice) and I would not mind being able to do the 60 mile passage crossing form Ft. Lauderdale to Bimini once in a while. My current 18' is a lightweight V-hull skiff style boat. No way would I attempt either of those in this boat. I want to keep it even when/if I get bigger because there are some things that will be impractical to do in a 25+ footer that are perfect for a small 18...

I Would Like To Say Wow!!!! What A Fantastic Job!!! God Bless You For Not Giving Up On Your Project. Maybe You Should Run For Public Office Our Country Could Use People Like You Who See Things Trough With Hard Work And Dedication.

I To Have A 1977 Scarab That I Just Purchase And Want To Bring Back To Its Original Glory. May I Contact You From Time To Time For Advice And Insight? My Boat Has Inboard Motors With Low Hours. Over All It Is Pretty Good Shape But I Believe We Are A Lot A Like Good Is Not Good Enough I Want Perfection. These Hull Designs Were Way Ahead Of Their Time And Still Work Wonders In Open Blue Water.

Again Congrats!! On A Beautiful Boat

Oh, very cool! I hadn't seen this thread until now, but I read the first page where most guys were saying "throw in the towel now, you're in over your head, etc", and the last page which obviously shows what some determination and resolve will do (and maybe some extra $$ too?). Nicely done and thanks for the inspiration.

At first I thought you were crazy, but found myself cheering for you step by step. Blew the budget, but you still have one hell of a boat for 20k!

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

ScarabTOO...Check you PM id be glad to talk with you.

GUYS THE SEASONS ONLY 2 MONTHS AWAY.......THAT MEANS IN 4 WEEKS IN TIME TO PULL YOUR BOATS OUT, UNCOVER THEM AND START WORKING ON ANY "UPGRADES" YOU HAVE TO MAKE BEFORE THE SEASON!!!

UPDATE!-about a month ago i pulled the scarab (which is shrunk wrapped) into a buddies heated warehouse and i pulled all 6 wheels off the trailer and checked the bearings, re-greased, and made sure the trailer was road worthy before the season. I said "i dont wanna spend a nice summer day working on the trailer, id rather do it now while im bored and laying around". so needless to say shes road worthy. plan is, trailer her to the west side of Michigan and drop her in the water and shoot across Lake Michigan to Chicago for a long weekend. - This trip is planed for last weekend in June.

I plan on going the air races in Detroit June 5th

I plan on going to Put In Bay the weekend of July 30th, if anyone can meet up out there?

And im going to make it to Lake St Clair as well....no date set yet

Anyone wanna meet up?!

And i plan on
