Re: How to install a SMARTCRAFT system

Adding Smartcraft is as easy as Rotofixer has researched.
2008 Mercury 115 efi. Added the tach and link Gauges.
I have 4.00 software version which basically auto installs.I disabled the water pressure and trim sensor data thru cal 1and cal2 screens.
Date displayed is engine hours, temp, fuel pressure, voltage, oil pressure.
Easily can scroll thru data.
Simpiliest hookup ever.1 cable, plugs into engine and junction box,why so many dealers seem to make it complicated and lack of information.
Anyone wanting to install could easily do this on their own.It toke approx 1/2to run cable and install gauges.
Thanks to Rotofixer for his help guiding thru this.

Re: How to install a SMARTCRAFT system

I use my humminbird chartplotter for depth, fuel requires the level unit and harness.
Rotofixer seems to have researched these topics with better response.
I would wait for him to respond in.
Sorry

OK, but you said it was easy? "Simpiliest hookup ever" you said?

Tell me how to connect depth and fuel please?

Thanks

hello roto first your knowlege on smartcraft has helped me 10 fold thankyou i have 2006 150 optimax with mercmoniter 2 resistor cable 1 jbox do not have fuel oil paddlewheel cable. monitor displayes alarm, fuel sender, oil sender, trim sensor faults with no alarm sound my question is are the faulds because of no oil fuel harnes and if i want them working would i have to replace or add sensors to fuel tank and remote oil also trim with digital sensers

Hello, I am am glad I have been able to help! You are getting these "silent" alarms because of a configuration fault. if these were actual codes you would have beeping. You need to turn off the following options in either CAL 1 or CAL 2 (Don't remember which) Oil tank sensor, fuel 1, trim sensor. You would need an external oil tank with sending unit, fuel/ oil/ paddle wheel harness connected to fuel level sending unit, and digital trim sensor to make those systems work on your boat. Hope this helps!

Sorry I missed your message.... I was not in boat mode !! Did you get it all sorted out?

Briboat
I think so,I purchased Tach SW 4.00 .It seemed to auto configure on its own.I added a temp link gauge.I am using the analog fuel and trim gauge separately off the 14 pin harness and 10 pin can harness blue with a junction box for Smartcraft. It appears oil temp and pressure will be present but cannot confirm till water test.I cannot get the trim off the smartcraft monitor,it reads 25,I will get some photos and add to my posting (HAS ANYONE ADDED SMARTCRAFT TO 115EFI)
Thanks for your help.any suggestions or user tips are always appreciated.

Hi Brian,

Not sure if you sorted it out but you have an analog trim sending unit on the engine, to match your analog trim gauge, that is wy it will not work with the smartcraft. You need to switch it out for a digital one! Hope this helps.

Peter.

Re: How to install a SMARTCRAFT system

Thanks to RotorFixer and others, this is one of the most informative threads I've ever come across. I found this thread as I was working my way through my own installation. Like others, I felt I could purchase the parts and self-install for far less than the $2K I was quoted by a local dealer. I have twin 2003 Optimax 150's. It had all analog as the the Merc's are a re-power post-Yamaha. When doing the repower, the previous owner elected to "go cheap" and replaced nothing other than the motors and oil tanks. I recently add dual tachs and speedo and associated cables in between. I would like to add oil level sensors, but haven't been able to find them. Are they available as "add-on's"? Also, I want to add fuel level now and paddle wheel later for troll control. When I do this, I'm not sure what my configuration needs to be because, I would assume there would only be one paddle wheel and there is only one fuel tank, but two oil tanks. Any ideas on how this works? the oil tanks shouldn't be as concern, but I'm wondering on the one fuel tank. I also want to ensure my speedo gets me total fuel burn and not just one engine. I will have to add the paddle, fuel harness. As a side note, I was told by a Merc tech that the fuel burn data is a calculation based on rpm rather than an actual flowmeter. If this is the case, spark plug and injector condition might impact actual efficiency but not sure to what degree.
Any info would be appreciated.

Re: How to install a SMARTCRAFT system

I have been looking for Smartcraft installation information on other sites and so far this thread is the best!!
I have a Opti 200 sport jet and would like to connect the smartcraft to a Garmin 4210.
Can the smrtcft Connect to a NMEA 2000 port! If so is there any information?
I would like to use the Garmin without having to install a speedometer and/or Tach
Is this possable?
Thanks

It should, the resistance value it has to be is on the FAQ questions for smartcraft on the merc website. Mine worked perfectly, just make sure it is grounded well. Sorry for the delay

EDIT: you need a whole new tank with built in transmitter, same size, easy to change. you cant really add one, risk of engine failure due to pressurized oil system.

Depth is only possible with the merc transducer, not via NMEA.

Fuel is as I have describe a thousand times on here. Get a fuel oil paddle wheel harness, connect it to your engine. Connect the "fuel 1 " wire of that harness to the wire of your analog fuel transmitter. Make sure the transmitter is grounded properly. Turn fuel level option on in CAL menu of gauge. enjoy. Only thing is to check the resistance renge of your current transmitter.

Hi there,

You need whole new tanks, not a big deal, identical size, just strap in. look in the ishopmarine.com catalog to find them! I can help you if you need.

I will have to look into the harness issue. I at first would assume that you only need one harness, and it would plug into all three tanks, so I will try to confirm. [ EDIT: EACH HARNESS ONLY CONNECTS TO TWO TANKS, SO YOU WOULD NEED A FUEL/OIL/PADDLE WHEEL HARNESS ON EACH ENGINE] you could always just order the one for now and try, I know it has multiple tank connections. Its been a few years since i hooked mine up.

It is based on fuel pressue and injector dwell. If the computer knows the injector hole size, how much fuel pressure there is and how long it's open it can fairly accurately measure fuel flow. One of our helicopters measure fuel flow this way in case you are doubting the theory!

There is a new gauge out, the "mercmonitor" it acts as a NMEA converter, I believe it will accept your gps signal and display that on screen. it will also drive link gauges. (like a tiny link speedo!)

Re: How to install a SMARTCRAFT system

I do have the Mercury depth transducer that says Airmar Smart IDT-P37 881931. But no instructions on how to connect it?

I am beginning to wonder if I have lost the plot?

Thanks

Hi.
I installed the Depth Transducer kit 881932. It is an in-hull sensor (from Airmar). The kit comes with a connector and a fuse kit and a couple of pages with instructions. I wonder if you have received the full kit. Attached are some scans from the first pages from those instructions. From those instructions it's easy where to connect to. You should install the wires from the sensor to the supplied empty connector. Then attach the connector to the fuse assembly and finally attach the fuse assembly connector to the 4 wire connector in the engine. The connector in the engine is the same as for example: http://forums.iboats.com/showpost.php?p=1855447&postcount=9

I have a 2007 75-hp optimax, so both this connector (4pin) and the connector for the paddlewheel/fuel (6pin) are right beside each other.

For the rest it is just to follow Rotorfixer excellent posts. They really made the installation easy. Thanks for that Rotorfixer.

Re: How to install a SMARTCRAFT system

Can someone verify that the fuel, paddle harness for a 2004 225 Optimax would be 84-865891. If not, what is the correct part number?

Re: How to install a SMARTCRAFT system

I just purchased a rebuilt 2001 Optimax 200 HP and want to install the Smartcraft system. I noticed you mentioned the 2002 year and above for hook ups, will the system hook up to a 2001?

You just need different gauges for 2001, I think everything else is the same.

Hi,
thanks for the information, I have the harness 84-859743T and have 4 unused wires as shown, Pink/black and Blue/black both with an Orange/black (earth). Neither are marked but I think one is 'Fuel 1'. You are saying I can connect this to my fuel sender whether it's a US (0-180ohm) or european (240-30 ohm) and then calibrate it in the smartcraft menu?
Thanks
