Re: How old is your boat?
All but one of mine are over 40.
1989 Duracraft 12'
1967 Starcraft Starchief 18'
1965 Sports Craft Ski-King 16'
1963 Starcraft Jupiter 16'
1962 Glaspar Tacoma 16'
1961 Speed Queen 16'
I've had a few newer boats but have always gone back to the older ones.
Most of my boats came to me as either freebies that ended up being decent boats. Most of the newer boats I've had have all been too far gone to really be worth my time to fix up or just not a style that I liked. The Starcrafts are my favorites but I strongly prefer aluminum boats.
I guess I should update my list since I've added a few more and let a couple go lately, I sold the Glasspar and Speed Queen after finding a couple of MFG boats. I added a pair of newer Bayliners but they are only interim boats till spring. The permanent list is now as follows:
1989 Duranautic 12' (Aluminum, w' 1980 Johson 15hp)
1967 Starcraft Starchief 18' (Aluminum, w/1995 Mercury 115hp)
1966 MFG Niagara 14' (Fiberglass w/1970 40hp Mercury 400)
1965 Sports Craft Ski-King 16' (Fiberglass w/1978 Johnson 55HP)
1965 MFG Edinboro 16' 6" (Fiberglass w/1969 Johnson 65hp)
1963 Starcraft Jupiter 16'(Aluminum w/1985 Johnson 70hp)
The two new additions actually move my average age up a few years but all but one are still over 40 years old. The two MFG are quickly becoming my favorites even though I still favor aluminum boats. Both are in pretty amazing shape for their age. The two Bayliners will get sold come spring, the one will get used for the rest of this season and get sold later. They were cheap finds in which one just happened to be usable as is. Both are 1987 models.
I doubt either will be on the list come spring.
I have alternate motors for both the MFG Niagara, (a 10hp Honda four stroke for running on one local lake), and the 12' Duranautic also has a 9.5hp Evinrude for the same lake to meet the under 10hp only regulation.
