This is a really nice thread, and extremely helpful. What you have done so far looks very good, and professional looking as well. I'm looking forward to seeing the vids when you get them up here.

This would be a good guide to have stickied on here so it never gets lost, and easy to find it.

You need to make a video. Your pictures speak a thousand words but a video would speak a million. I am in the process of making some cushions (still practicing) and I couldn't find any vids either. I have seen some courses around but they cost over 1000 bucks...

Thanks for the write up...

I've also been thinking of getting the SeaRay logo embroidered in the center of the middle backrest....similar to the sea Ray logo in your signature

mrdjflores,
Very nice work and a good instructional thread. The video would really be cool.
Keep it rolling , I think you may have found your niche.
Looks great.

i searched ebay for some stabilized foam (foam rubber) and found an ebay store that carries it, "The Foam Guys", they sell it in various thickness and sizes, and density (firmness)

I know I usually just read and lurk here but.....

This is an AWESOME thread.... I have done about two or three dozens upholstery jobs... over the years it all started for me when I re-did my motorcycle seat when I was about 15yrs old... My mother is a very talented seamstress for advice but I could have really used your thread or your upcoming video when I first started... Man mistakes can get expensive when you are learning on marine vinyl....

Totally awesome though....

My mother has an electronic embroidery machine and I sneak over and use her machine all the time to add logos and writing on headrests and such.... I use it so much that she threatens to charge me a monthly membership fee....

You are doing great.... I cannot STRESS how good your stitching and how straight your lines are for your first job.... BTW what you are learning is extremely addictive..... be prepared friends and buddies and such are always wanting me to do their hot rods, boats, motorcycle seats etc.... and this is just a hobby for me as well.... makes a great bartering tool.... transmission job , engine rebuild, deck built on my house are some of the things I have bartered for.... besides bartering is fun, because both people have given and both get what they want....

Are you going to keep them all solid colors or are you going to put stripes or designs in them???

great job!!!!

If you need any help or anything drop me a message.... but your stuff looks as good as my second or third job looked.... you have a talent....

Re: How I made my boat seats.....(guide)

I'm using a heavy guage plastic (like yardwaste/leaf garbage bags, but clear) about 6 mills thick. I was only putting them on the seat bottoms and not the backs....but, since i have to restaple the backs (i forgot to put in the mounting hardware on the ply) i'm going to put the plastic on the backs as well

Re: How I made my boat seats.....(guide)

every machine is a little different...start off with the needle thread with the tension set midway...and run a few test passes...if the loops seem loose on top, then increase the tension....if it looks too tight, lessen the tension...

then check the underside of the vinyl and look for the same thing to adjust the bobbin tension
