Yes, it seems to be a high frequency of new members randomly searching and responding to old threads. I know this issue comes up often and with some discussion. Just wondering if there are additional steps that can be taken to lighten the 'policing' load on the Moderators.Hey Newbies...... the rules are there for a reason

Couldn't the software be setup so that older threads beyond a certain date would be closed for further discussion?Yes, it seems to be a high frequency of new members randomly searching and responding to old threads. Can't do that. Recently a member reopened one of his threads after 9 years.Couldn't the software be setup so that older threads beyond a certain date would be closed for further discussion?
Oh, 9 years! not so good! Can't do that. Recently a member reopened one of his threads after 9 years.
Since the original guy that started the topic "re-opened" it by posting to it, replies by anyone else is permissible. Then after such a thread is reactivated, some people add to it not realizing it's so old.
No way to add the red 90day inactive bannerIt seemed like the forum software version used by Iboats when I first joined displayed a red banner (for old topics) that warned against replying. Seems like something similar could help.
I know of other forums that do allow posting to old threads, so I can see how this could be confusing to new members. Of course, if they read our rules, they would know...
