Re: Here I go again!! 1995 Sea Ray 220 Signature Deck and Stringer Restoration
Since you are back to working on the boat I have a couple ideas for you.
First, on your motor, if it has a second plug in the pan (mine did), remove it and put in a fumoto valve or a remote drain hose. I put a fumoto in mine so I could drain the oil instead of pumping it out. Once your motor is installed it could be tough to get in there. I went with fumoto because I have used them on many other motors and I like the fact there is a valve there instead of just a capped off tube.
For your batteries, I was looking for trays and had a really hard time finding ones that would fit group 31. I wanted group 31 because I wanted to the extra capacity since we tend to spend time on the hook listening to music. Anyway, walmart has some nice boxes that have a moveable wall so you can put it can secure batteries of different sizes. I would higly recommend them as they completely cover the batteries.
Lastly, on batteries, not to start a debate, but if you need new ones, stop by your local Napa Auto Parts. Ours carries Deka brand batteries which are made by East Penn Mfg and are great batteries. I went with wet cells because I could not justify the cost of AGM since mine were $100 each and the AGM I wanted were $270 each.
Since your boat is essentially brand new, new batteries might be in order.
