Ok, really frustrated here.

I spent 50 bucks to get the"marine" carb kit, and a lot of it didn't even fit! I had to re-use an inner gasket, the main gasket, the needle valve and housing in the bowl, and it didn't even come with new adjustment screws, which I think is the problem!

Worst 50 bucks I ever spent. I did what I could, am installing this afternoon and will update then.

$50?? Look here...might be worth buying this and re-doing the carb. http://www.wholesalemarine.com/p/SIE-18-7746/Rochester+2+Barrel+Carburetor+Kit+by+Sierra.html

Yep, 50 bucks. Unfortunately the shop I go to is the only one that always has the OMC stuff I need in stock, and trust me THEY KNOW IT.

I am really thinking I might just have an automotive carb on my boat. I don't understand how the parts could have been so different.

Also there are 2 hose outlets on the carb and I have no idea what they are for. It is a larger and a a smaller one, right on top of each other, towards toe top corner of the carb and sticking out at a 45 degree angle. They have vacuum, but holding a finger over them didn't seem to make a difference. I looked around the motor and didnt' see anywhere else a vacuum line would need to go.

Thanks guys. Yes I stumbled across that flyingfish site today, and if this carb ends up being an automotive carb or if I have any further troubles with it I am just going to throw in the towel and order a reman from them when I can afford it.

I checked those links out, thanks also, thanks! I am going to get the number of the carb today after work and run it to see what kind it is. I didn't find a match for the number in the paperwork that came with the rebuild kit, but I neglected to write it down.

Here are some pics of mine. A Google search of your part # returned carbs for Impalas, Monte Carlos, etc...

Thanks for the pics Levinz!

I guess that's my answer to why that rebuild kit didn't fit right, I'm pretty sure mine is an automotive carb...

At least I know now.

Yours apparently is also missing that linkage you were questioning before.

Yep, it actually goes between the choke rod and the idle screw rest, which is supposed to rotate. I know this because it just rotated loose and grabbed onto the idle screw, locking the throttle open and scaring the crap out of me while I was running the boat!

Does anyone know where I can find an exploded view diagram for this carb I DO have, or at least the specifications so I can perhaps re-create this missing linkage? It is called the "choke rod".

I understand budget might be an issue. It always is for me! But you really need to get a marine carb. Auto carbs dump excess gas into the engine compartment and are a fire/safety issue.

I plan on it, I just can't afford the 3-4 hundred right now. I won't even get a core deposit back now!

I plugged the 2 mystery holes yesterday, and it still has a line routed from the bowl to the fuel pump like the marine version does. It also has the spark arrester on top. I don't see anywhere else this carb could possible leak fuel or vapors that it wouldn't on a marine carb as well.

Really sucks that somebody took this short-cut God knows HOW long ago, but even more so that it took me so long and a rebuild kit later to figure it out!

Something about if the float bowl overfills a marine carb will dump down the throat and an auto carb will not. Just keep an eye on it and have a working blower ;)

Re: Help please! Ford 2.3 and OMC Cobra outdrive stalls when shifted into gear.

Thanks man, this is only until my next payday when I can order a carb.

That being said; can anyone tell me where my idle should be in neutral? I would like to set it somewhere close out of water so when I get it IN water I should be close to the 600-650 that I need when I put it in drive. How much is too high for safe shifting?

I am nervous. I hope something I did works.

The moderator "Don S" says he sets idle at 750-725 in N and on muffs. Should be right at 600 or so when in gear and in the water. The book calls for 600. My ESA isn't working and it shifts fine with the idle at 600 but I set mine to 550 just in case.
