Troy, There was/is NO standard way of doing transoms. What you see is what you get. You WILL do it better than what anyone or any factory ever did back then. I'd recommend running it about 1/2" from the sides of the hull. That will allow the PB to ooze out and you can form a nice concave fillet that will allow you to tab the transom to the sides. Also use a circular saw with the blade set about 1/16" shy of the depth of the transom wood and cut a 1 " grid on the transom wood. Vertical and horizontal. You can then use a hammer and chisel to easily remove the 1" squares from the outer skin and then finish up with a grinder to clean the outer skin of any wood clinging to it. Make sure and always wear your PPE!!!
