So a guy I know wants to swap me this for a set of headers. I didn't give a lot for the headers so I'm up for the deal, but would really like to know who made this motor and if I can get parts for it. He says no ID plate on the motor and it ran when it was used last. 10 years ago. I know it was originally marketed by Sears, but who built the thing?

I’d make sure it had spark, and then it’s probably $50-100 motor. Made for Sears by Eska. Will have a techumseh power products engine. If it’s electronic ignition and it doesn’t work, the parts are NLA and it’s junk. If it’s got points and condenser, then its reliability went up 100%. Nothing will stop one of those with points. There is nothing to go wrong basically…. As long as you don’t mind loud noises

So this is an Eska? I've heard of them, but never seen one before. Can I get stuff like coils and impellers for this guy? I suppose if I need a prop/hub I'm SOL? I like to mess around with old motors, but not sure if this one is worth my time.

Ignition parts can be found if its points ignition. The engine itself is a 2 stroke air cooled lawnmower engine. If it’s electronic ignition then the stuff is all NLA. My father in law has one he wants to get running. I’m not all that enthusiastic about it, I gave him a minty running evinrude 4hp
