Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

I'm sure this guy will find a real nice boat this way......
Of course, he don't want to deal with any soft floors or fiberglass work too...

I am looking for a free boat - 20'-25' cuddy or cruiser (South Jersey)

Have a boat you don't want anymore? Or one that you are tired of, or that needs work?

I am looking for a first boat for myself, I don't want to spend a lot of money one getting one before I find out if it's something my family would want to do (boating, that is). So, if you have a 20-25 ft cruiser or cuddy style boat (something big enough for my family of 5 and that we could overnight in) that is in decent shape but just needs some work, or you're tired of looking at it, or whatever...I may be your answer. I see quite a few free boats on CL so maybe I can catch you before you post yours on here for someone to snag before I can even reply to the posting.

Something I could tow and that comes with a trailer would be ideal.

This post is absolutely serious. I'm pretty handy, engines/electrical/hydraulic/whatever don't scare me at all, soft floors or fiberglass repairs are not something I am interested in learning how to do.

Drop me an email if you can help me out.

Thanks in advance for your interest.

$500 for a transom mount 50 Lb Minn Kota trolling motor? REALLY!!! I should see if he has any takers, and offer them mine for $350.

-E

I was just at Walmart, a that motor is $199.99, Minn Kota Endura 50lb thrust, and the battery is $65.
I can't figure out how some people think on these things. There was a guy at a local flea market last week with a 30 year old MinnKota 28lb thrust motor that wanted $400, he said he paid double that for it two years ago. He either figures people are idiots or he's living in some dream world.
The way I see it, used items, in perfect condition would be worth half of new, give or take a little for condition.
Of course there's always the chance that the guy above bought that thing not knowing that they only sell for $200 new, and is just passing his wonderful deal along still clueless to what they sell for?

I got this boat a year ago and haven't used it. It's taking up too much space so it has to go.

It's 14 ft long, 3ft 10 in wide, and 14in tall. It comes with an anchor crank, but doesn't come with an anchor. The boat has four seats that fit multiple people. The boat is big enough to hold many people. This is great for family or friends.

The boat has been left outside in the rain. It was just cleaned. The back of the boat there is a piece of wood that is rotted. This could be taken out. This doesn't affect the boat. The boat does float and works.

You just have to have the right 15 people:
...pic...

Unless they all weigh under about 40lbs, even that won't work. I've got a boat that measures 4' wide and 14' long like that, it's rated at 4 persons/610 lbs max persons and gear.

- There are 10 kinds of people in this world, those who know binary and those who don't

"old 10hp outboard boat motor as is - $175"

Description of something.....
ummmmm...
Well, at least it's complete....

"old boat motor 175 or best offer. complete without gas tank. need out of garage right away!!"

should email him "Tape a 10 spot to it and set on the curb."

There's no end to these, you guys.
No end.

You shouldn't jump to conclusions. "Old" means different things to different people, and this could actually be a great deal.

I picked up a 'old' 4hp johnson seller said make offer.

I got there, turned out to be a 1982, missing carb, some screws, no plugs, and prop was off.

I offered him $30, he said no. (thats all I brought with me)
I thanked him for his time, and started to leave. then the old man said "eh F it, I dont want anyone else here looking for 30 minutes, then offering me less! take it!"

Had 125psi in each cylinder. carb cost me $20 on ebay.
That engine ran perfect. I miss the thing :-(

I know.
Thought of that, too.
but...
180 miles to find out... unless he'll answer email with worthwhile input... and I got this visual of a "prize possession" 1950's rude sitting in the garage and untouched since 1975.
I understand, it's all in the perspective. But it seems to me if he had something, he'd say a thing or two about it beyond "get it out of my garage".

"And of course they all think its worth big money..."

LOL Bubba! NEWBIE here, long-time lurker, new (old boat) owner...I've spent a couple of years searching CL, etc. for boat deals and finally bit the bullet on a sweet 1980 Bayliner Santiago Cuddy 21'.

Two things about CL posts, especially up here in Puget Sound: 1) No one seems to have the slightest idea or care what their boat is actually worth, or has any qualms about ignoring that value and asking whatever they want for it; 2) There are a lot of ignoramuses in P.S. and it makes me think the public shools up here need help!

OMG it's been fun laughing at rediculous ads, but also a pain in the transom to sort through them to figure out if the ads are worth checking out or not! Thanks for posting!

Like this guys attitude will sell the boat....
It's probably not too bad of a price but the fact that he don't want anyone to look at it without buying it surely won't endear him to many potential buyers. The thing most likely has some old gas guzzling V8 that burns $500+ per day with today's fuel prices.
If I were him, I'd be happy to just find someone to drag it out of my yard....

Trailer alone is worth $1500. My friend and I just spent 10 grand on a bigger boat so this has to go. Engine started fine last summer but I can not find key. I put over 2 grand into it after paying 1500 for it (thats 3500 altogether). With a little TLC this will a nice boat to take the family out in or dock it for a party boat. The inside (bed, table) is not in good shape but not trashed either, you can either clean it up or replace)

I will not talk to anyone who does not come with cash. I will not meet you at the boat and answer a lot of dumb questions. If you are crazy and just want someone to talk to I am not your man. If you want the boat I will meet you somewhere with the title and you can follow me to it. It is in my friends back yard, he does not want anyone there except the buyer. If you are serious and not crazy email me.

Again, only email me if you have cash and are going to buy it. It takes a 2in ball. I'm sick of all the weirdos that contact me when I sell anything. For 900 or b/o you are getting an incredible deal. I will only sell it Sat afternoon or Sunday, after that I will have re-keyed keep it, I really don't care.

That's ridiculous. Why would anyone thing the public schools need help up there?

Wait, do you have a Four Winds boat on a trailor, or possibly a tri-haul boat?
