Re: Friscoboater's 1986 Glastron Carlson CVX-18 Complete restoration thread

It is great to have you guys along with me again. I am exited, and nervous, but more exited. Now that I have some more light I will post another video soon of the inspection.

I was hoping it'd prompt you into fessing up about the power plan for the CVX ;)

230 or 260hp originally/currently?

A 260hp in that low sleek 18ft'r must FLY!

I it is a 305 with an alpha drive, and I think the alpha is the only thing good besides the hull. Its going to be a 350 when all said and done.

I'll be tagging along as well Jay. Cool project!

I notices a certain jasoutside has posted to your thread. Just a fair warning!!! Jas has a fiberglass protection order against him. If he shows up in a white work van with grinders and sawzalls the authorities must be contacted.

He cannot be with in 500 feet of a fiberglass boat with tools. His M.O. is to make contact and act as though he wants to help. The next thing you know your hull is at the dump getting run over by the bulldozer!!! Just sayin Be on the lookout!

I heard that, and I have informed my security to keep a lookout.

The video is now posted at the top.

You ain't leaving me behind, I'm aboard...yeah baby! This is gonna be a fun ride!

BTW, it wouldn't take much to turn a 350 into a 383 stroker...just sayin...

Have Fun!

My favorite CVX-18 Color Scheme...'Coral'...looks Orange in the sun, and a deep Red in the shade. I saved these b/c I'd love to do my CVZ-18 in these colors someday. However, your Black scheme is awesome as well!

Re: Friscoboater's 1986 Glastron Carlson CVX-18 Complete restoration thread

Well, I just could not resist doing a little work on her today. I wanted to see just how bad this rig was, and to my surprise, things look better that I thought. I took out my trusty polisher, sandpaper, and went to town. The gelcoat just came back to an awesome, deep gloss that I just could not believe. That is such a relief that I do not have to paint this boat.

Another pleasant surprise was the deck. I pulled up some carpet and some of the deck, and it looks like I will not have to remove the cap and replace it all. Thank goodness the owner kept the boat bow up, and the only thing bad is the back half. Now of course that could change when i get into it, but so far so good.

My son and I cleaner her out really good just to see what we had, and in the process found a kneeboard, some change, and a ski... Whooohooo. So now I am ready to get this thing off the trailer and start the destruction process.

I am going to build a cradle like the one I made for the SX-190, but connect the two cradles so the boat can sit like it is on a trailer. I then need to figure out a way to get her in and out of the garage for grinding, and washout... Hrmmmmm.

Anyway here is some pics and video of the carnage.

Nasty Leaves and muck

Re: Friscoboater's 1986 Glastron Carlson CVX-18 Complete restoration thread

Sorry, one more polish spot. Here you can see just how bad the red was, and a little further down, you can see what it should look like. I have to say, the black sparkle just pops!

file-34.jpg

Right in front of this spot is where the rot looks like it stops. Now the wood is old, and will get a layer of glass over it if I decide it is strong enough.

Last but not least, here is the video from today.

Frisco along for the ride should be very educational and will definatly kill the winter blues. The individual that wins this auction will be one lucky SOB. If you keep this up you can be the Chip Foose of boats.

Happy thanks giving to you to Wood. I am actually not looking to make any money out of this. All I want to do is break even. I am going to have to put so much into it, I will be lucky to do that.

I really enjoy working on boats, and this helps me make it through the winter.
