Eastern Georgian Bay in Canada.

They say it's the best fresh water boating in the world and claim 30 000 islands.

Water is deep and clear (although cold for those of you southerners).

To bad we can only boat for about 5 months of the year.

Re: Favorite Lakes

I guess my favorite is Lake Barkley. My wifes family has a condo on the water and the people down that way are super nice. The lake is pretty shallow in places, the channel is nice and deep.

My favorite lake is Table Rock. I made my first trip there this summer. Clear water, nice marina's and you can give the depth finder a rest... its deep everywhere. I'm going back to TR next summer!

Re: Favorite Lakes

Lake Cumberland is definitely my favorite. Over 100 miles long and over 2000 miles of shorline makes this great for big boats (and a few big fish) :D

Champlain has my vote! :D

I vaguely remember ice fishing on Lake Champlain in a dark shanty drinking ginger brandy, smoking Vermont Green and sight fishing perch 20 foot down below the ice.

Jackson Lake at the base of the Grand Tetons in Wyoming is stunningly beautiful. However, boat performance suffers for engines with fuel mixtures set at sea level since the lake elevation is about 7,000 ft.

In that case, I agree- Champlain is fairly clear and definitely clearer than your memory. It must have been the dark shanty... ;)

I never had ventured Champlain much with my boat before this year, but this past summer I fished the Palisades 4 times and the Inland Sea at least 8 times. A couple of those days were a little tall on the wave height for my boat... :-O

I am hooked on Champlain though. Got blessed a motorless 19' Starcraft in really fine shape for a trade this fall. Going to save pennies over the winter for a 70hp and I won't have to be so picky with my days next summer!

Mead for sure. Been going there for over 35 years. It's beaches are just as nice at 1094' as they are at 1229'

Re: Favorite Lakes

We generally only go to lakes where you can comfortably boat year round, and that don't have biting bugs (or snakes)...

Favorites:
Lake Goodwin, WA
Lake Mead, NV
Lake Cachuma, CA
Lopez Lake, CA
Lake Powell, AZ / UT
Sacramento Delta, CA

Re: Favorite Lakes

I will say lake Erie. There is a ton of good camping every place and at good prices. there are some great beach areas around the Port Clinton area and the Bass Islands home of PUT-in-BAY are a short trip from there. you can also find great bass, perch and Walleye fishing all over. If you are into big thrills Cedar Point is also just a short boat ride. It can be a ton of fun for a tight budget.:)

Re: Favorite Lakes

I agree Solar. I grew up near Toledo,Oh. and spent a lot of time on Erie with friends and family boating and fishing (nothing like perch fishing in Sandusky bay in the spring). I took my wife up there for a week last summer and spent the whole time on the water she never knew the lakes were so BIG:)

Re: Favorite Lakes

Torch Lake, MI . It's my place to go. 18 miles long, 300 ft deep, with the most beautiful water

or just the Great Lakes

Where are you at. I'm in Roscommon. WE should get together. I would love to cruise and even do the Boat trip at Torch Lake. I'm just five miles east of North Higgins Lake State park.
