Re: Favorite Lakes

I have a small armada of boats in my bathtub. Does that count?

If not, then Lake Wawasee in northwest Indiana

Lake Clementine. Small. out of the way but not really. nobody goes in the shoulder months, and it's just awesome. September rolls around and most folks have put em away for the year, clementine turns into "Cheers" .... love that place.

Re: Favorite Lakes

I now live on the Harris Chain of Lakes in Central Florida and love it. I used to live on Lake West Point in West Central Georgia. Both are wonderful.

Re: Favorite Lakes

In Central Florida, the chain of lakes with Lake Kissimmee is real nice. You have multiple lakes, connected by winding canals, the water is deep in the middle, but once you get in the Kissimmee river, you have to watch out for the cypress stumps. This lake is mostly packed with bass boats, and an occasional water skier, but it is a nice place for family boating.

Also, Lake Panasofkee in Florida is nice as well. Last time I was there, the water was in the 10-15 foot range, but crystal clear.

Both lakes do have gators though.

Re: Favorite Lakes

We spend a lot of our lake time at Lake of the Ozarks. We always stay at the Lake of the Ozarks State Park Marina. The area around the marina is completely undeveloped so lots of great secluded coves to anchor for the day. If you are more into the party crowd the famous "Party Cove" is always hopping every weekend in the summer. And there are numerous lakeside bars and eating establishments. As the previous post stated however, you will need to stay out of the main channel on the weekends if you have a smaller boat due to the swells produced by the many 50'+ cruisers. The state park does have a great campground as well.
Also our second favorite lake is Tablerock Lake in southern MIssouri near Branson. A very clear deep water lake with minimal boat traffic. And it is only 10 minutes from Branson. Lots of campgrounds here.

If you are going to be this far east, Champlain is a great lake to spend time on.

I really want to try out Lake Pleasant in the phoneix, AZ area though. i drove out to it, and it looks nice. incredible launch ramp as well, like 10 lanes wide or somethin. powell is fantastic, probably the most sought after vacation lake in our book lol.

As my name would suggest I'm a huge fan of Lake Huron. Clear water, more than enough room for whatever you want to do- whether it's trolling for salmon, lake trout, steelhead or brown trout, scuba diving/snorkelling the plethora of shipwrecks, tubing, skiing or just cruising.

Check out Mackinaw Island for a unique experience. No cars allowed all horse and buggy;)

To each his own. I like the feeling that I'm the only boat on the lake sometimes.

Re: Favorite Lakes

Torch Lake, MI . It's my place to go. 18 miles long, 300 ft deep, with the most beautiful water

or just the Great Lakes

Second. Torch Lake has to be the best in Michigan. The nearby lakes (Bellaire, Grand Traverse Bay, Elk Lake) aren't bad either, and can be done in the same week.
The sand bar on Torch Lake is a perfect place to spend a day, or longer. There is even food delivery service out to the sand bar and food vendors on site almost every day. Always something new to see or do.

We usually put in in Mona Lake in Muskegon, MI. It's real close to our house. Our boat is small enough to make it through the shallow channel (sometimes as shallow as 1-1/2') to Lake Michigan. We are about midway between the Muskegon Channel and Grand Haven Channel. A little farther (but not too far for a small bowrider on a decent day) are Holland, Saugatuck, Whitehall, Ludington, and Pentwater. Can't safely cross Lake Michigan (75 miles or so) in anything that small, though, especially with your family on board and limited fuel supply. Gotta love Michigan!!!

Re: Favorite Lakes

If anyone happens to venture to SC, Lake Murray is decent. It's not quite a vacation destination, but has great largemouth, crappie, and striper. It is also plenty large enough for any and all watersports. At one time it was the country's largest man-made lake. Don't know if that still holds true. Plenty of marinas and drive-up bars. There is a little sightseeing such as a large dam and many million $ homes. Divers can explore some WWII era planes that crashed and sunk, I've heard. A good day destination if you happen to be traveling through.

Devils Lake in North Dakota for the best Walleye fishing you'll find. Plenty of lake with elbow room. Woodland Resort will take care of your lodging. Been going there every summer for 15 years or so.

Re: Favorite Lakes

All the talk of the Finger Lakes in here is making me home-sick :( I grew up on Canandaigua Lake & we've been vacationing there for the past 3 yrs. I love that lake. Keuka is definitely a close 2nd.

Southeast PA kinda stinks in comparison to living in the Finger Lakes :(

Cherokee Lake or Douglas Lake in East Tennessee. Both are great for fishing and boating.
