Re: Favorite Boating Destinations

humina, humina, humina!!!! Whaaaa!!! I don't think I've ever used 800 in gallons in all of my boats in all of my life. I thought going through 6 gallons in a day was bad until I heard my neighbor spends about $400-$500 on gas, but $4k! Gadzooks!

I know we are getting off track....but.....I captained a Viking Sportfish for years. We traveled appx 5000 miles a year. The fuel capacity was 1600 gals.....I burned 3.5 gallons per mile.

One place I've always wanted to go is the Lousiana Bayou by jet ski or any small boat.......for a week.
Georgian Bay is beautiful.
Isla Saona, Dominican Republic is very unique, as is Samana Bay during humpback whale season.
Concky Joes Seafood Shack across the ICW from me is a weekly thing.
Traveling down a small river in Michigan in an inner tube was alot of fun.
Kayaking the small rivers around me surrounded by our favorite "yard animal" the aligator is exciting. So is the whitewater in the New River in West Virginia surrounded by bolders.

I'm up for anything.....on or under the water.

3+ gallons to the mile! That's worse than an old Cadillac :) Sasto, how in the world do you get to see, well, all of the world and by boat no less? I want to go to Samana Bay (where ever that is) during Humpback season :/ I'm beating my head against a wall trying to get into med school so I can deal with blood and guts, getting sued and being in debt for the rest of my life. I'm obviously doing something wrong. I want to trade. Keep on living the good life! .........now are you on the boat, or in it?......hmmmmmm....

Samana on the north coast of Dominican Republc, kfa4303. To own a boat like that one? You would have to ask the Bossman. I was his Professional Garden Hose Roller Upper and Horse Caretaker..2400 HP that is. (Captain)

I'm on the boat...in the cockpit....well you get my drift. ;)

Good Luck in all you do!

Favorite Destination?
It's sort of like asking which is your favorite Kid. There differences make them special.
We got back from 2 weeks on Lake Powell about 2 weeks ago. So that's my favorite now, see a couple of pictures below. Gotta repair some minor damage from that trip & probably will then go to Catalina for a few days. It's fun & relaxing. My son & His Family live near Sacramento, so we'll most likely go to the Delta the end of June or early July. Lobster Season starts in November in Calif. so then it'll be a couple of overnighters to try and trap some of those nocturnal critters.
Speaking of cost. Our Powell trip cost us slightly over $2000. Mostly Gas for the Suburban, 560 miles each way + a 150 mile detour to see my Daughter. And, gas for the Boat 106 Miles from Wahweap to Halls Crossing + the side Canyons. Including Food, we mostly ate on the Boat & it probably shouldn't be counted because we have to eat every day no matter where we are.
We live in a Beautiful Country and a lot of it is best seen from the water.

So watcha tink, sasto?;)

My apologies, everyone... Didn't mean to 'jack the thread. I forget where I am on the forum, sometimes.

Heck, I forget where I am in life sometimes, too!!!

Anyway, my favorite boating destination is pretty much anywhere navigable.;)

My favorite...in the yard, on the muffs, cranking it over, getting nowhere, and ruining my starter.
Not that I would know. LOL

Re: Favorite Boating Destinations

another vote for lake here, Too many warm nice crystal clear lakes in NH to not love em. When the water is 70-80 degrees and i can see the ground when its 20 feet deep, that's hard to beat. The river is typically a little dirtier and boring. The ocean is just a little too big for my 18 foot boat and too cold to truly enjoy.

Currently my favorite NH lake is Winnisquam. Just the right size for my boat, convenient location and everything about it adds up to a nice relaxing way to spend the day at the lake.

Winnipesaukee is nice too, but much larger and trickier to navigate

My favorite place to boat is Flaming Gorge, its located in Northern Utah/ Southern Wyoming. I love this lake because it is huge!! You can be in a bay and see 10 other boats, drive down the channel for 10 minutes and be all by yourself! The scenery is also incredible, you can go from grassy rolling hills to red rock cliffs in 15 minutes, in another 15 minutes you will be looking at grey granite mountains. It's one of my favorite summer destinations, I go every year multiple times and would never miss an opportunity to be there!!
Wow!!

I have to say Pitt Lake is my favorite spot. I mean here you are boating during the summer and you can see snow peaked mountains! Very nice scenery to say the least!

Re: Favorite Boating Destinations

I live near Kansas City so I am somewhat limited (close) just for fun that's in town, Smithville lake is nice and so's Hillsdale. But my favorite nearby would be Bull Shoals or Pomme De Terre in Southern Mo. Most fun I have ever had is lake Kabetogama in Northern Minnesota right on the border of the BWCA. I like larger small lakes. I too have an 18-19 ft boat and big water is a bit much.

Re: Favorite Boating Destinations

I live in Colorado and we are limited on where we boat...in state our favorite is Lake Meredith (a large, relatively shallow sandy bottom lake; 2,500 acres) The reason it's our favorite is there's a sandy beach in which to camp (no fees, no reservations and no amenities) we bring our our generator for power. Our dogs run free, there hardly a soul there and it's usually very hot and the water temp is in the 80's. The kids can play in the water as it's shallow for a ways out. There's no really big boats because of the depth, so wake is usually from the go fast boats and jet-skis...perfect for wake boarding. I should mention, it's in the sticks, water is always cloudy and there are cattle fields withing couple of hundred yards (smelly)!

We like the islands at Lake Texoma. Some of them are party-city during the summer weekends, but you can usually find a sparsely populated island if you want some peace and quiet.

Here's a pic I took with our old boat one weekend in September (sorry about quality, cheap disp. camera).

Here's a pic during a summer weekend of the main party island.

Note the difference. There's peace and quiet. And there's bikini-clad babes. One should have choices, right?

Seriously, I always pick the uncrowded spots. It has nothing to do with the fact that my wife is aboard. (Honest, honey!) :)

My favourite location to boat is Georgian Bay. So easy on the eyes, but so hard on propellers. I took the picture below of our 17' Winner Eliminator anchored while my wife swam above her shadow circa 1975. I voted "bay", but Georgian Bay is 120 miles long, just under the size of Lake Ontario. - Grandad

In my youth, I loved the Finger lakes. First boat, circa 1982, Waneta lake:

BUT..... I voted the Chesapeake. So many places to go and so little time......:clock:

My vote is for Lake of the Ozarks. The variety there of things to do (both on and off the water) boggles the mind. From quiet coves to good fishing to great events to eating and drinking establishments, it has it all.

I'm with Grandad, I love boating on Georgian Bay. I would like one day to boat around the bahamas, and make a crossing from Florida.
