Re: Favorite Boating Destinations

P5120001.jpgWe've got the Kawartha lakes and Trent Severn waterway in our back yard. The scenery is nice along the rivers, but there is nothing like being out on the lake at towards the end of a good day, the sun is low, the water is like glass, your up on plain and the engine is just humming.
Gosh! Our boating season is way too short.

I'd have to say lake and Caddo Lake on the TX/LA border is one of my favorites. Second would be rivers.

It sounds like the scenery is a lot better down your way than it is up here. But then again, I get in trouble with the wife if I look at a bikini!

I'm afraid it wouldn't work. I normally only go fishing when I take the grand kids out.

Agreed! But I'm biased, as it's my backyard.

BUT...the tourist pontoon/jet ski/YOLO board rental dudes are starting to ruin it. I was out there a couple of weeks ago and the place was nearly overrun with rental pontoons, etc. And it was only mid-April! We love tourists down here, but since they've discovered Crab Island and rental pontoons, it's gotten pretty bad out there. They don't know the rules of the road, have been drinkin' all day, don't know how to operate the vessel, and are generally hazardous to local boaters. The rental companies don't care, they're makin' big bucks off of tourists, and the cops are too busy trying to make sure the fish you just caught isn't a quarter of an inch over the limit to bother with drunk tourists in pontoons.

Off my soapbox now, thanks...:grumpy:

Lake Winnipesaukee in NH is a great place to boat and probably my favorite, but I also happily boat on the ocean, rivers, bays and other lakes as well.

I hear great things about that lake. Would love to check it out one day. It's on my office calendar this month; looks gorgeous!

I don't think that's Winnipesaukee. There are no stern-wheelers like that on the lake. The Mount Washington looks a bit like that but turns twin props with 650 HP Cat diesels.

You're right; it's Minnetonka.

Funny names confuse me.

I voted lake....Grew up on Lake Tenkiller in Oklahoma, Beaver Lake in NW Arkansas, Table Rock Lake in Branson Missouri, and now I'm exploring Grand Lake in Grove Oklahoma. Since I do not have a trailer I keep my boat at a marina on Grand and its only 45 minutes from my house so I believe I will be leaving her there for a while.
