Facebook parenting (tough love)

Well in the midst of this video going viral, I ran across this vid of a frustrated dad's response to really his daughters lack of respect and complacency towards internet privacy.

I was a teenager not too long ago, I did some things that were disrespectful and probably at one time thought many of the thoughts this fathers daughter states.

Hopefully this does not get too political, but the amount of hits on the video alone I feel speaks volumes to the importance of this overall parenting and social situation. I really hope this one doesnt get locked.

What are your thoughts on his parenting tactics ? I say too tough, and ineffective at this level, but I can imagine how frustrated my dad was when I wrecked my first car. What will this father do in THAT situation?

I'm so happy he shot that Laptop!! I bet he felt sooooooooo much better!!!!


I completely understand how he feels, My middle daughter had one of these phases and it was all I could do to keep from strangling her, thank god we all survived and now I only have my youngest at home, and she is a great child!!


Too Tough? no way, god bless him!!

Thats an excellent, no nonsense approach to an insulant teenager.....great stuff. Social Media will be the downfall of the current generation. How badly it gets for them will depend on how adamant the parents are about setting hard rules and consequences about using it. The modern parent is often anything but that because you need to be very confident to be a good parent....this guy seems to be and he isn't 'afraid' of his kid like so many parents. Shifting gears between being a 'Mom' and a 'Daddy' to being a parent is not easy.....a lot of parents never do.
Good on 'em.....great video....lets hope it carries the message to more parents and then through to their teens.

I'm pretty sure he actually missed on one of the shots . .as he had 5 holes after 6 shots . . .

I LOVE IT!!!!! The only thing I worry about is if he's gonna get popped for shooting a firearm in city limits....
My oldest came quite close to this years ago, is why her mom wanted her to live with me, scared the crap outta daughter, she would'nt move up here, because i would def do something like he did!
PS - and yes, discipline starts at an EARLY age, so you dont have to fight it when kids get older, but hey we dont really know the whole story on that, dad divorced, remarried etc.

Three of the rounds where in one big hole.

As the father of a 13yo girl 12yo boy and 3yo boy.

At times they can be trying but all in all are good kids.
The older two get good grades are in 4h, play sports and spend lots of time on the water in the summer.


I dont think the guy was hard enough on her.
Keeping the laptop around where she could see it would have been much worse.


Is a nice .45 though.

It's bad enough when a dumb kid, airs their dirty laundry, in public. When an dumb adult does it, just to feel vindicated, it just simply lame.

I know we all think, as teenage children, we were all perfect little, hard working angels, but I'll bet our parent's, often thought otherwise. ( I know mine did).

Have to agree with this one. As a father of 5 grown up children I understand his frustration but not his resolution methods.

No its bad enough when they do it once. When they do it again after being warned then attempt to hide it, the consequences of their actions need to be realized. Again posting a "rebuttal" on youtube and shooting the laptop were over the top, way over the top.

ROFL...hahaha I never thought about this aspect, maybe his frustration ultimately stems from the pain in the arse it was to upgrade that laptop hahaha.

He miscounted his rounds as well which scares me a litte. He forgot how many he had left in the mag oops.

Agreed. Taking physical posessions away was never a tactic of my parents. They channeled my underlying issue of having too much energy and becoming bored by getting me more involved with extra curricular activities. This poor girl isn't going to have too many friends after this theatric which will IMO make his parenting responsibilities more difficult.

I have friends whose parents would "take-away" and "give-back" posessions and they are still struggling to really be productive in society. They became spoiled, and really never learned the value of $1.



It concerns me that he took the time to re-edit his youtube post out of concern folks might be offended by "his daughters language", and for whatever reason unloading a semi-automatic weapon in your community in broad daylight isn't offensive?

pretty good imho.

i took a different route (i don't have any weapons) when my (then)16 year old boy was giving me the blues...
typical adolescent stuff. ya know, lying, cheating, stealing, drinking, smokin dope, smart talkin and all that stuff...

what i did was to take everything away from him. after i made my move. he had a bed, a desk w/lamp and a dresser left (certainly no computer). i even made him take his own door off his bedroom and take it downstairs. he lost his privacy (best move i made that day imho)...
well, 6 mo. later (w/o any of his stuff) he was on his hands and knees begging for everything back. promised me he'd straighten up.

and it worked, he did straighten up. i had little problems after that 6 mo. episode... he's now 22, got a job, in school and appears to me to be trying...

this makes me feel good as i was a single dad w/custody since he was 10 years old. i think some tough love works sometimes... not fun. but did what i thought i had to do to get him back on the right path..

My girlfriend was playing this at 5:00am when I woke up, so I was kinda groggy when I heard it...My only thought is being a parent I know kids can drive you crazy, but the parents have some responsibility also...The fathers story isn't consistent throughout the video...I doubt he was in college and high school at 15 working two jobs and volunteering as a firefighter...

The father is a little melodramatic and doesn't know how to take responsibility for his 15 year old daughter...She probably is a pain in the ***, but he has something to do with the end result...

I will never forget the day my youngest daughter said "Daddy, you threw the ball to me wrong so I couldn't catch it"

Make someone wrong to make you right...

The "these are exploding hollow point rounds" makes me laugh...I't doesn't matter what you shoot a 1 1/2" plastic computer with, the bullets go through...Comments like "I just spent 135$ and 1/2 a day upgrading her laptop to make it the way she wanted it for school" are just idiotic...The father obviously has to talk up everything and make more out of then it is to try to get others to see his point...

Of course none of us know the guy personally and we're just guessing the full story on it all. Our own personal experiences have us assuming this and that.

I think he's a legend who has had enough after his daughter pushed it too far.

Myself, I nip things in the bud real early. She would never of done it a second time.
