Re: Facebook parenting (tough love)

There's an outstanding parenting book available. It's pretty old, but it's the best one out there. Think he needs to read it.

... that's probably a big component in this gig too. Good call Coop.

I think the whole thing was staged and that was a trashed 'puter he shot.

Junk like this on youtube should be considered and judged for "entertainment value" only!

So if this father came to your place looking for a job and you knew of this You Tube video, would you hire him? Putting stuff out on the internet can bite you more ways than one.

This is from Tommy Jordan himself. It is a good read and will give you a good understanding of him. He is a good father, his daughter is a good girl and the Jordan families are well respected here. Like I said earlier the police have thanked him and the child protection agency has dismissed this. I get tired of people Stereotyping us as rednecks http://www.litefm.com/pages/news-story.html?feed=421220&article=9744152

What ever led to this is the real issue, he lost her and any respect well before this happened. May be one of the lowest forms of communication I am aware of. Beating the kid is about the only thing worse. Neither (methods) of them work, but you couldnt pay me to try to raise a child in todays times. I just love watching parents debate with children about anything. 9/10 times the kids win, like it should ever be a debate to begin with. All this shows is how poor of a parent he really is, he fixed nothing.

He did not lose her. I respect him for TRYING to be a parent. He gave her a valuable lesson that she will carry with her for the rest of her life....yes, He gave her something valuable....how many parents just sit back and give nothing? Unless you are a parent of this child your input serves no constructive purpose. Parenting used to be private and things worked out fine...now the social media is trying to throw curve balls.
I love my parents, I cannot remember all the THINGS they gave me but I remember all the displine and life's hard earned lessons.

The valuable lesson is not to post your personal stuff on Facebook or Youtube. Both parent and child are learning that the hard way here. Poor judgement on both of them!

Bigdee,
Seems like you know this guy and that's fine... for the rest of us all we have to judge him by is the video he posted. The press release over face book or what ever you want to call it was well written and seems likely to have been composed by someone other than the knucklehead we saw in that video.
Being a parent myself of a Toddler and a Teenager I am well aware of the challenges parents are presented with. Looking back at various situations there are lots of things i would modify slightly, that whole hindsight is 20/20 thing. However, I can't see any situation where what he did would be helpful in my family but if it works for him, oh well. Most folks are going to look poorly on that situation and format he used.
My opinion stands... He's a knucklehead but i wish him well. I think social media generally does more harm than good.

There we go again with steotype opinions...I guess since this guy is from the South he is unable to use his college education to write. Around here blood is thicker than water and most of us can weather the trials and tribulations of life and learn from it. To be as hurt and angry as he was I thought he came across to his daughter in a calm and articulate manner. He did exactly what he warned his daughter he would do....not milk toast disipline.

Re: Facebook parenting (tough love)

It's not about being Southern, Bigdee. Sadly, this guy is probably having to make up ground for not parenting early on. Something(s) has happened over the years that is now haunting the relationship he has with his daughter. She treats him far too much like an equal (as though she's an adult), and he engages that (even in the responses you posted it's evident).

Like I said, no problem with blowing the computer - or even dealing with the public aspect of her Facebook post. But the overall tenor of his video was combative, and was probably too much. Parents are to not only train their children and keep them under control, they are to be the main instrument in shaping their child into a person of character. It requires a relationship - not just regulation. And you have to be very careful with that, y'know?

I tend to agree. Redneck parenting at its best.
Why even use the word red neck..I only live about 20 miles from this guy and I am NO REDNECK.......I even have the same dialect ,,,,,,,,,but Im not red neck. Mexifornia has the most prisons and jail inmates in the entire country and I dont refer to people that live there as criminals.....

It's also about parenting by example and being mature enough not to sink to the child's level, even in cases like this where it may seem warranted. Losing one's temper with one's child, while not good, is understandable. Broadcasting it to the world is not, regardless of what part of the world one calls home. This family has problems that need to be addressed in counseling, not on Youtube.

Glad you aren't! And by the way, was directing the comment toward the Youtube poster, not the entire region.

I actually think Jeff Foxworthy might pick this incident up and use it in his show! :)

You don't need to tell me about child raising. My wife has been a teacher for the last 45 years and has seen firsthand what happens when you take disipline away from teachers and parents. Opinionated administrators and child pyschologists (most don't have kids of thier own) have interfered with the way we raise children. Like my wife says, you can't raise or disipline kids when opinionated people get in the way.
